friend has a newer Traveler dish set up for Dish Network. He wants to switch to Direct Tv. He has a Direct HD receiver and wants to know what has to be done to

Larry your Friend will have to order a conversion kit it will consist of a new reflector, Lnb arm as well as a couple of electronic components. If I remember it will be around $3000. Very Important he needs to make sure his receiver is compatible with the Traveler, Direct TV or Winegard will be able to give him that information.

Craig, thanks for info on the conversion kits. Sounds better than a new dish.

l tried to talk him out of Direct but he believes it’s better than Dish.

    Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The Winegard Trav’ler for Dish CANNOT be converted to work with DirecTV HD. While the Trav’ler for DirecTV can be converted to DISH, it does not work the other way.

The DISH Trav’ler uses a smaller motor that will easily lift the DISH antenna but is not strong enough to lift the heavier DTV antenna/LNB setup.

I used to work for Winegard so this information is accurate.
