  • Prevost Parts CatBase viewer install problems

Posted by Mike on May 5, 2018 at 2:11 pm

Has anyone else had a problem loading Prevost CatBase viewer software on Windows 10? After install, I keep getting “A crash has been detected by BugTrap” and shuts the software down. Frustrating!!!! Thanks!

Yup. I have given up and do all my parts searches with the good folks from Elgin.

There was a time when Prevost was also having problems with the system and the parts guys were working off a database on a disc.

I have windows 10 and finally got everything loaded and working. It took some time but is well worth the effort. I have used it several times recently to research and order parts. I do however call Prevost parts and verify what I see to make sure I’m getting the correct part.

I have the original parts manual that came with my coach (1991) and wonder if the parts numbers have changed since new? Actually have the Operators and Service Manuals also.

    Mike,

Could be that the software would run on another browser like foxfire or chrome ? Its worth a try anyway.

It will not run on chrome as I recall, but I think it states that.

It won’t run on Safari either, I just tried. I’ve never been able to view the Parts catalogue. I guess I don’t have enough patience.

I have an old CD with the program on it that ran on windows XP. No problems installing it on windows XP. Worked great! Tried to use the disc on windows 10 and it will install the CatBase viewer but when loading the prevostparts it crashes with “a crash has been detected by BugTrap”. I tried downloading the file online and installing it. Does the same thing! I went in the Prevost program folders and deleted the BugTrap.dll drivers and it still doesn’t load the catalog. Guess this is a question to Prevost, “What is wrong with your software Bro!!!!” If I find an answer I will post the fix if there is one!

Ok I got in touch with Prevost. This is how to fix the problem! 1. Go to search box on desktop. 2. Type in regedit, open the file registry. 3. Click on local machine, Delete any registered file by the name CatBase. 4. Go to local user and do the same.

This will remove any previous installs of the software and or attempts of software installs. Reinstall CatBase and be sure to put prevost parts folder in C:/CatBase in order for it to find files. You may even have to help point it there when the software opens. Working great now but not the easiest software to work with. Enter your coach serial number and it should pull up that year coaches.

I tried installing today. Explorer in Windows 10. Patiently downloaded both the Catbase and the parts database. Tried to install. Then I realized I tried to install before … probably a couple of times.

Then I read through the twelve page Catview Software Installation Guide. The process reminded me of installing complicated, mortgage processing software in the early 1990’s using 3.5″ floppy disks.

This is much more difficult that it needs to be.
