Want to be New Owners
Hi all, new to the group. My wife and I are in the market for an early 2000 to mid 2000 H3 and have been seriously looking for a number of months and just returned from the W Palm Beach Expo, but did not find “our” coach. After “drinking from the fire-hose” on this site and others we have narrowed down the field in terms of what are wants and what are no go’s. We are in the deep south so climate control systems that can stand the heat and humidity is in the top tier must haves. This means anything but cruise airs. If the generator needs to be run while underway to keep the bus comfortable that’s OK. Prevost 100,000 btu OTR air would be great but not having it is not a deal killer. Having one sofa and preferably 2 recliners is well up on the list also. Interior cannot look like it belongs in Vegas. Proprietary boards, control systems and schematics move it way down the list.
Our journey started with a XL or XLII and after being aboard a number of X’s and H’s we now believe the H’s are a better fit for us and our use of it. Initially we were sold on NOT having slides due to the simplicity and potential problems with the slides and after reviewing in person lots of buses with/without slides we are looking for at least one slide and would prefer 2.
I ran across a 2006 American Coach (orig mfg in Allen, MI) that checks many of our boxes and was hoping to get feedback from members on this forum. American Coach closed its doors in the 2006-2007 time frame and there is very little information that I can find online. This was a Buddy Gregg company.
This coach has the 14L 60 series rather than the earlier 12.7 L. Other than mpg reduction what if any issues are known about this engine. It was modified by Pittsburgh Power at some point with a module to increase HP, this can be changed on the fly by the operator. Stock the engine is rated at 515 HP and can be dialed up to 630 hp with the Pittsburgh Power modification. I have some concerns about the aftermarket module but Pittsburgh Power has a great reputation.
The climate control system is a Paradigm basement air 48,000 BTU two stage A/C system with 2 roof mounted condensers. The system is capable of 1700 cfm according to the mfg. As usual they are no longer in business but I understand the guts are off the shelf components still available. The Paradigm 1st stage A/C is driven by 2 stacked Outback 3500 watt inverts. The second stage is powered by an Auragen 8500 watt engine driven generator. Are there any members that are familiar with the Paradigm or Auragen systems that can comment on these?
The original “AUX” controls have been replaced with “Spider controls” this seems to be a typical upgrade for the original system.
Any and all feedback is appreciated. Looking forward to our first Prevost.
