  • Front hub lubricant?

Posted by Chas on April 8, 2014 at 7:16 pm

So what should I be using and what is the process for inspection/maintenance?

How often, much, etc? I see the line for minimum, what is max? Is it best to keep it 100% full and what kind of oil should I be adding (and where can you get some on the road)?

    Charles,

The same gear oil as you use for the differential is used in the hubs. The Prevost Car web site lists the weights based on ambient temps. I used 85/140.

There are two things to be aware of and they are to maintain the level at the mark on the plastic cover. Overfilling is not needed or recommended. In the rubber plug there is a small pin hole. It is important to be sure that hole is not clogged because it allows the hub to “breathe as temps go up and down. That will prevent the oil from leaking past the hub seal.
