Report of truck stop robbery
Item on another Group report about a RV’Er being robbed by a group of men,
who took 3,500 from him.
at Rest Area at exit 101 on I-40 in Tenn.
Said police said it has become more frequent.
watch your back, stay alert.

I used to always take my pistol with me on trips in the bus. However I stopped doing it because I wasn’t sure of laws as I went from state to state. Not sure what others are doing but it was something that gave me peace of mind.
I do feel like we are targets in our buses at truck stops and definitely at rest stops.

There is a wonderful resource put out by the NRA that will explain what each states laws are with regard to carrying a handgun when traveling thru the state “Travelers Guide to Handgun laws of the fifty states”. I keep mine with me at all time. Needless to say, in todays world I ALWAYS have my handgun with me and I go to the range a couple of times each month to stay proficient.

In case no one has figured it out, 101 on I 40 is close to Jon’s house.

Bernie’s right, no rest area at 101.
Buddy you might be on to something, Jon’s spending a lot of money on the Ford, so if you see a guy in the rest area wearing a Nixon mask, head phones hooked to a shoulder mounted boom box and penny loffers, grab your wallet.

If you guys consider 298 miles a short distance I guess it is close to my house.
Now that I think about it that sounds like an easier way to get money than working for it.
Rest area robberies are not new. About 8 years ago a Prevost owner was outside his coach in a rest area when another “traveler” went by him and told him he should go down the row about 3 trucks because there was some guy losing a lot of money in a card game. He went down out of curiosity and it wasn’t a card game but a couple of guys who grabbed him, took his Rolex and emptied his pockets including his wallet and a lot of cash.
After hearing that story I don’t venture far from the coach and I always look around before I step outside unless another couple is with us.

Carry a shotgun pump 18 and 1/2 inch barrel is legal , everybody knows that sound when u pump it. ( step away from the bus) !!!!!!!!!

I noticed that when exit 101 was mentioned for I-40 that it would not be near Knoxville. Exit one would be in Memphis at the Mississippi River, so exit 101 would be just past Jackson, TN (about exit 80) on the way to Nashville which starts in the late 190’s (exit numbers).
Now, I realize the importance of not “standing out”. It’s going to be kinda hard to do with a new coach. I’ll have to race from Prevost rally to Prevost rally with no stops in between. We’ll have to have a honey wagon and fuel truck follow us around! LOL!
In the 7 or more years with our current coach and a few years before that with rentals, we have never had a scary issue or threat. We are counting our lucky stars.
Boy, I sure wish our coach was ready before the OKC no rally rally but it won’t be.

As you probably figured out some folks on here are challenged when it comes to map reading.
You will never believe how much attention a Prevost gets compared to the conventional motorhomes. Surprisingly when refueling we often have drivers want to talk about the coach. The last time one stopped to talk he was happy to tell me he knows they cost about $100,000. That means we all are RICH.

I have never had a problem at a truck stop, but then again little experience with the prevost in these situations.
But…about year and a half ago I was west of Jacksonville somewhere on I-10, 1 am…beat, got off at a rest area that has you cross over the freeway to get to it on the other side.
Dude halfway blocking the entrance…flags me down, his car on the side with white trash GF sitting inside…he asked for help, I said just walk up to the rest area ( 300 yards ).. he kept insisting I give him a ride ” cawmon man cawmon man”….you can use your imagination as to the type of individual.
My Spidey sense was going off and I made an excuse and kinda floored it up to the rest area, where I decided not to stick around.
Bottom line I usually play it safe and go with my gut and am a good judge of character, if you look shady or the area is sketchy, move on, don’t give a shit about anyones sensibilities or feelings…

Just to add to Jons comments, compared to my old rig the Prevost does attract a lot of attention, probably good and bad, but most have been very friendly so far…but keep in mind that people will think you have $ and I am decidely NOT rich, but the average American couldnt scrape together $2000 in a hurry these days so even in a used 13 yo $200k Prevost you come off as super wealthy.

Here is a piece of technical information for you. Mileposts on Interstates begin and the western state line and increase as you go east on an even numbered route. That would be what I-40 does in Tennessee. Milepost 1 is one mile east of the Arkansas/Tennessee State line. So milepost 101 is one hundred and one miles east of the Arkansas/Tennessee State line. Exit 80 would therefore be 21 miles short of milepost 101. The exits are numbered based on the mileposts. In an earlier time they did not follow that protocol. Now all states are required to follow the new protocol.
Just for information on north/south interstates the mileposts run from south to north, also starting at one and continuing to increase as you procede in a northerly direction.
If you are traveling west or south all you need do to determine the miles to the next state line is look at the milepost marker or the number of an exit. Go that number of miles and you will be at a State line.
