X3-45 VIP musings
Jon asked me to share a few thoughts on our new Liberty prevost X3 ….. well it rides like a dream like all Prevosts. We have had the privelege of owning a XLII and an H3 prior to the X3. Compared to the others there is more headroom inside (89″) makes it seem more spacious. We have only put on about 3000 miles so far and I have not noticed any major differences in handling, with the longer wheelbase (+18′) I have not noticed much of a change as far a backing and parking. Ground clearance ( 11″) is the only problem I have found, backing into my storage building I had to raise the coach just to clear a minimal drainage swale. The Volvo engine is much quieter and a lot less vibration. Prevost has had to move systems around to keep from over loading the front axle (now rated at 19,000lbs) fuel tank is back in front of the drive axle which sometimes is a challenge at a truck stop. The real pain in the a@# is the DEF (diesel emissions fluid) Prevost’s wisdom has put the filler only on the passenger side so you can not fill it at the pump, you have to buy it by the 2.5 gallon jug at twice the pump $. The converters have screamed but Prevost is not interested in changing it. oh well!! Volvo has some very cool and comprehensive dash instrumentation, the digital display gives you a lot of options of which you can customize to your liking.
Liberty did a great job with the conversion. My wife Nancy chose all the interior colors and materials with wonderful help from Kim at Liberty. We asked for a few modifications and design changes and they came through with flying colors. All the compartments under have been finished with the same Prevost SS siding as the outside…very nice.. I will build more muscle now polishing the inside as well as the outside!!! Very well though out location of the systems, due to the changes Prevost made. Most of the systems are easy to access for maintenance.
To see our coach it is the one used by Prevost on their web site and also can be seen on Liberty’s web site.
