I have been working on another project since we have been stuck at home. I had three lose rub rails. I did not know until I took them off how close i was to losing the short one on our mid door.

I do not know if everybody’s rub rails on XL’s are attached like mine so I will try to explain it. The long rub rails on the bays have four mounting brackets that were fastened to the rub rail by double sided tape. The mounting brackets have a channel attched and a carriage type bolt slides in the channel. The threaded end of the carriage type bolt goes through the bay door. I cleaned all of the doubled sided type off of the brackets and the rub rails used Sikaflex to put them back together.

The mounting brackets on the small rub rail on the mid door are different. They look like they were fabricated by the converter. They were fastened to the rub rail by Sika or something similar. They are narrow have very, very little surface area that is in contact with the rail. I cleaned them and applied the Sika. I kept them clamped for nearly 48 hours but when I put them on and tightened the nuts inside the door I could tell it was not going to hold. It did not. Because of the way they are made, tightening them pulled the center in. I will try to add a picture of the narrow fabricated brakets tomorrow

I did not take a good picture of the good brackets used on the long rub rails with lots of surface area. This is the best I have. Like I said I will try to add a picture of the narrow fabricated brackets tommorrow.

It seems these would work fine on the short rub rail on the mid door. Can I buy these some where? Is there something else I am missing? I was told that Sika was the thing to use on these. Is that correct? Should I have used good strong double sided tape instead?
