  • Bay Door Locks

Others have posted about problems and solutions with bay door locks but I finally seem to have solved my intermittent problem. I have five bay doors with locks. They all work with the key and three of them would lock and unlock every time with the inside switches. Two of them, the water bay and the generator bay would sometimes not lock with the switch and sometimes not unlock with the switch. Sometimes they worked perfectly and sometimes they did not.

It was annoying when I would close the water bay without locking it, jump in the drivers seat and drive away and the indicator light on the dash was lit up because the bay would not lock electrically.

My friend that owns and drives an entertainer coach told me he sprays the inside workings of the lock including inside the rubber boot with water resistant silicone lubricant about once per year.

I thought it was worth a try. I removed the little plate on the inside of the doors and sprayed all five locks in just a few minutes. The two stubborn locks then locked and unlocked electrically every time and three weeks later they are still operating properly.

An interesting side note: When I told him the generator bay lock was sticking, he told me he removes the lock on the generator bay. They run their generator almost constantly and he said he wants instant access to the generator in case of fire. Most of us probably do not run our generators enough so I do not think removing the lock is necessary but I thought it was interesting.
