  • Bathroom Break in NYC

I have a relative that is a school teacher. She is often in charge of special trips for students. The schools asked her to go on a trip that someone else organized. They were working with a charter company for transportation and they needed three coaches. The charter company sent three buses from three different contracted companies. The drivers would not communicate with each other. They communicated through their respective companies about Everything, including the best way to get places.

None of the drivers were familiar with New York City and would not talk to each other. The trip was a nightmare. Each bus took a different route, got stuck in different traffic patterns and so the students arrived at tour stops at different times. The tours often had to wait a long time to begin. That means they had fifty small town kids standing on a street corner in NYC waiting an hour or so for the other 100 kids. It was a mess but there was one moment that lightened the atmosphere.

One of the drivers was caught in traffic, waiting on a red light and “had to go”, so set the air break and “she went”.

The light changed and everything moved around the bus the best they could. Since it was NYC no one even batted an eye at a bus sitting in traffic and not moving. When she finished, she went back to the front, climbed in the driver’s seat and kept driving. It was hilarious!

I have been tempted a few times but I have never resorted to that. I might now!

    Davy,

As a kid I lived in Secaucus NJ and we could see the Empire State Building from our living room window. I often went into the city and spent a lot of time in all 5 bouroughs.

To be a survivor in NYC you must possess an attitude. Obviously the drivers of those buses are all from the area.

My relative on the bus said that no one in traffic seemed bothered at all by a bus stopped in the middle of the road. She said the kids thought it was a hoot!
