Mail Forwarding
Anyone have experience with Dakota Post (FMCA) for mail forwarding. Thanks in advance. Geo.

We don’t have Dakota Post yet, but other forums have positive responses to their services. We plan to become SD residents in January and will use their mail forwarding services, as well as their vehicle registration services. So I’m interested in responses to your your thread.

Family Motor Coach speaks highly of them and you know how grouchy those FMCA members can get when things go wrong. Oh, Wait, I am one of them.
Post your outcome as I plan to use them on my return to the U.S of A.

i just did this for montana…i had heard about sd, think the service there is a lot cheaper then MT.
What are the other advantages of SD?

No State Income Taxes, 3% Vehicle Registration Fees, No vehicle inspections, No personal property taxes and can renew DL online. I’m sure there’s more, but that’s a start.

We are presently using Americas Mailbox out of Box Elder, SD, and do not recommend them. We will likely be changing to a different service.

We’ve used Americas Mailbox for a few years and are very happy with them. I can’t think of a single issue we have had with them. We’ve visited their offices several times and they are always friendly and helpful and the mail forwarding has been flawless.
I don’t know about the other place, but I can strongly recommend Americas Mailbox based on our experience. What problems have you had?

No problems….haven’t used anyone yet….getting ready to pick one as we’ll be on the road for 6mos.

Hi Corey, I would suggest that you go and try a UPS Store. We have rented a box from one of them for the past 3-4 years and have had no regrets. When we receive a package, they send us an email to let us know. When the mail box starts to overfill, they call us and we give them instructions where to send everything. They also tell us who the mail is from. Our only costs are the annual mailbox rental (about $150) and the cost of reforwarding mail and packages. We try to use UPS Ground whenever possible to keep the costs down. This setup is working very well for us.

Our problems with Americas Mailbox:
1. Difficult to setup an account/address with.
2. Insurance service won’t return a phone call. Gave up after two attempts.
3. Lost/misplaced mail. Not much response from them until I politely informed them that the missing mail was medicine and that we would have to file a police report. We had a delivery receipt showing that the package was delivered to them. The notice of police involvement got them moving and they found our package.
4. Spent one night in their RV park. Talked to the manager and paid over the phone since we would be arriving late. They neglected to tell us that the entire row of spaces where they put us didn’t have any water. The entire situation was very poorly handled by them.
5. Can’t pickup mail on the weekends as they only work Mon-Fri. and no one attends the RV park after 5pm or on the weekends.
Glad you’ve had a good experience with them. Wish our experiences were as positive as yours. They are some nice people, just not very competent.

We picked up a UPS box and have been very happy with them. Price is decent and their services are excellent. We have yet to have an issue with using it as a legal street address and they provide mail forwarding on request for the cost of actual postage.

We use Escapees forwarding out of TX, but they recently started offering SD and FL addresses as well I believe. We’ve had no problems for the 3+ years we’ve used them. They also now offer some insights into domicile declaration for full timers too, I think. Costs around $100/year for basic and they offer several levels of service. Worth a look – http://www.escapees.com – check on the mail tab. Have to be an Escapees member, but in our opinion that’s a good thing anyway. Membership is about $60/yr, but I think they have a 50% discount now.

We’ve used Dakota Post for just over a year, and have been quite happy with them. We recently bought a new tow vehicle and they facilitated the registration in SD. They have a new “Virtual Mailbox” which allows you to view your mail (they take a pic of the envelope/package) and then ask them to shred or trash it so that you don’t have to pay for it to be sent to you.

We have used the UPS store for the last 10 years they are accessable 24 hrs a day when we are “home”. When in Fla. or on the road will send mail wherever we land per our request ( overnight, 2 day etc.) they will sort out 1st class and send “junk”, mags etc. “pony express” low $$ when we request. highly recomended!!

We have used the Escapees mail service for years. They have handled every request correctly. Most of our bills are paid via our credit union so very few bills are forwarded.
You can choose the frequency of service, we use once per week.
Sure works well for us as we are full timers.

I used a P. O. Box at a pack and ship store like a UPS store.
They rented mail boxes and I had one of those as my mail address.
Every so often I would call to see what I had and then get them to forward to me in a day or two.
Worked really well.
They will also except packages for stuff you order.
