Rt 191 from West Yellowstone to Big Sky
Posted by Chris on July 17, 2016 at 12:00 amHey guys,
Has anyone driven route 191 from West Yellowstone through Big Sky and on up to Bozeman?
We were wondering if it would be a doable drive. It looks like a pretty drive.
Thank you,
Chris

We just came back from there this past week. Good road, no issues with the bus. We always come down from Belgrade, MT that way. Never had an issue with anything on 191. Trucks use it all the time.

between West Y and Big Sky is a section of Rt 191 that goes into Yellowstone about 12 miles north of West Yellowstone. No surprises, other than a possible speed limit reduction. We drove our Yellowstone MCI’s buses to Bozeman and the airport all winter for many years four times a day on regular, runs. You may see elk also on the way and a beautiful view of the west side of the Gallatin Mountain. 48 miles to Big Sky’s driveway, then the canyon narrows so you are closer to the Gallatin River which originates from Yellowstone. You’ll follow closely along it edge for 19 miles, then you’ll open to the Gallatin Valley the rest of the way. The Gallintin River is 1/3 of what makes the Missouri River which begins west of Bozeman/Belgrade at Three Forks, Mt where the Galatin meets the Madison and Jefferson Rivers. The Madison River also originates in Yellowstone, which is the River that follows the road out to the west gate of the park to the town of West Yellowstone after the Firehole River from the Old Faithful area converges with the Gibbon River, at Madison Jct 14 miles east of West Yellowstone, Mt
