  • Aux system has big gremlin Please read and advise

Posted by George on September 26, 2021 at 9:32 pm

Did leak checks on coach and found a couple leaks and replaced fittings.

Next turn on aux compressor to build pressure to check progress.

Am doing a couple of other things and look down at aux pressure gauge and see it at 130 lbs

I realize this is too high and that aux compressor is set to 100 lbs, and should have shut down long before this pressure.

I turn off the aux compressor and immediately hear a rush of air and see the aux pressure gauge drop to 65 lbs pressure.

I turn on aux and allow to build to 100 lbs and shut off the compressor. Observe pressure loss is minimal and is at level I will look for the minor leaks at another time.

Next day drive bus and observe the aux gauge going to 120 lbs and then almost immediately dropping to 102 to 103 and holding for about 5 minutes before dropping to 100 lbs and again the compressor building to 120.

The system then drops to about 102 or 103 and holds. It then drops to 100 and cycles the compressor to rebuild air to 120.

It does this for the next two hours of the trip.

The coach next day troubleshooting builds air to 120 and leaks down to 101 in 15minutes.

Leaking down to 100 lbs took 20minutes.

The coach had 100 lbs at 11 am and had only dropped to 50 lbs in 6 hours.

Retried the build up of pressure and can’t repeat process, but still wondering why pressure drops from 120 to 100 so quick but slowly drops down as pressure decreases to 100 lbs.

The loss is not logical across the pressure decrease.

Do you have to drive the Bus with your Aux compressor on? With the Engine running, pressure should be maintained by the Engine compressor. With the engine running and the Aux compressor off, what do the gauges do?

Do you have a check valve between the aux. compressor and the coach air? If not, the air regulator from the aux compressor will leak down when the coach air builds up unless you have the aux compressor regulator set to 120-130 range. If you do, that could also be failing.

The strange action was with engine compressor only. The aux was only used to test while not running the engine while looking for leaks and then after reaching home and trouble shooting again.
