  • Mac Valves?

Posted by Art on August 4, 2020 at 9:53 am

There is a Mac valve in steer compartment for the slide on the step well, I’ve been working on an air leak on the ram on the step well, pulled ram out and ordered a rebuild kit for it and while I waited for kit I took ram apart and oiled parts and re installed it and now it slams open and closed, I replaced the Mac valve a couple of years ago and it has worked good and now it slams both ways. On the Mac valve turning the controls on it open and closed it still is too much, took off cover on Mac valve and it looks like controls cuts the flow of air down but with 120 PSI it’s too much. when i reinstall ram I got step well too go in and out easy and smooth, maybe too easy and smooth. does anyone have experience with this?? That Mac valve says it is for Monaco’s step well. I might put a small air regulator on the curcuit for step well ??

An alternative would be to restrict the rate of flow. I would imagine if the well cover drags a higher pressure would be better, but just not at a rate that slams the cover.

On my Royale, the MAC valve for the stair cover slide has two small set screws that limit the air flow rate to prevent slamming. If your mac valve lacks those, I suspect you have the wrong valve.

I recall 60 psi regulated for the step.

Art, I am looking at fixing a air leak on my slide also.

How did you access the ram? any pictures would be welcomed.

    Thanks

Here’s what controls my stepwell slide. The air going to it is not regulated down from normal aux system operating pressure. Always moves at a nice slow speed.

So what I did I got a small regulator and now it’s set at 45 psi much better and I used a used 3 port norgren valve, so I tied the control port to the travel port on the 5 port so step is active when the coach is in travel mode, and when your parked the step is inactive, Jim it was not bad removing ram, waiting for kit to rebuild. If you want to call me I can explain, I don’t typr well (805) 712-9449

My 97 Royale had an access plate in the spare tire area behind the front bumper that helped in accessing the floor cylinder.

Yes under spare tire area lay on your back remove 2 wood covers to access 2 round holes and I marked both 1/4 inch air lines in spare tire area and cut them and reaching through holes take 1 screw out of rear support on ram, and then on front of slide remove front piece 10 or 12 screws now remove nut on ram and 1 screw on body of ram and it pulls out rite out under front of slide. I would take pictures but it’s back in while I work on the air side on it, kit for ram should be here soon. Hopefully the kit will be correct, called the manufacture (phd) of ram and Provoast is one of their distributers
