  • Recommendation for air system parts

Posted by Eric on March 2, 2020 at 10:33 pm

My 1995 recently developed the leans to the driver’s side. The Norgren valves have not been replaced since I have owned it the past seven years. I don’t want to spend time / money chasing an air leak and would prefer replacing all of the valves that could cause this to fix this problem and prevent issues in the near future. I did replace all of the air bags just a few years ago. My question is, what would others recommend I replace as preventative maintenance to the air suspension system?

Push-on fittings with DOT compression fittings.

The r-12 valves that interlock the tag brakes. This valve gets it pilot signal from the tag bag supply on each side. If the pilot leaks you get the leans on that side.

Change push in fittings to compression. Check all fittings to verify they are air tight.

Change the Norgren valves in the rear, if not the entire coach.

    Have you replaced the airbags?

Have you changed the 5 stack armature valves and coils?

He said airbags were replaced within a reasonable time frame, but that does not rule them out as a source for a leak.

With the key off the solenoid valve manifold should have nothing to do with the leans, but that is not to say the solenoid valves should be ignored. I never replace the manifold, but instead replace coils and valve bodies. Way cheaper and actually easier.

Thank you for the replies. I think what I what to do is replace everything under the coach, both front and back. I will definitely use the compression fittings. Having read many threads on the topic, I think I know the answer to the following, but I should probably check to be sure. How many Norgren valves are there, five port and three port and where are they located. I believe there is only one R-12 valve, where is this located? I know the ride height valves are in front of the duals in the back, how about the one in front?

Your 95 may be different from my 93, get the air diagram from the prevost site.

I think you will find (2) R-12 valves used in what Prevost term an “interlock” function. One for each side.

You will have to count Norgrens. There have been enough changes over the years between Prevost and converters I know there is no one single answer.

Use Swagelok fittings. Highly recommended by the guys in the know.

After my experience with Swagelok I will never use another brand of compression fitting.

Do you have a link for Swagelok fittings?

My 95 Prevost/96 Liberty has three R12 and one R14 brake relay valves. I rebuilt mine yrs ago. Search here on PC using word “R12” or “R14” and you’ll find threads.

There are 10 total Norgrens, 5 in the front and “maybe” 5 in the rear. In the rear on the bulkhead just fwd of the drive axle, there are two Norgren # K910058 = K81EA00KACKAC, then there are 3 more on the inside of the frame rails above the tag axle. Their part #s depend on your buses tag logic/mod status.

In front, just inside the steer compartment door, on the bulkhead to the lower right near the 5 stack, is a Norgren 3port/2 way K910026 = K41EA00KS1KA2 spool valve, and the upper is a 5port/3 way K910058 = K81EA00KACKAC.

Just fwd and above the steer axle is a K910026 = K41EA00KS1KA2.

Then on the floor of the steer compartment, for my Liberty AUTO leveling option, there are two electric Norgren spool valves= K41EA00KS1KV2.

A good thread here on PC with a lot of about the two possible tag logic setups and associated Norgren and/or Burkett spool valves: LINK

On my liberty 94, I have all K910026 and K910058 except for two – my guess is these were put in after either by Liberty or some other service. but I also have

    K41EA00-KS6-KV2

    K41EA00KS6KV21W1

Not sure what the difference between the KS1 to the KS6. The KS6 I have seen means spring return, but not sure why these different valves are in.

Here is what Norgren says about the KS1 and KS6 and 1W1
KS1 = nonlocking, nondetented, internal pilot, minimum pilot pressure is 15 psi.
KS6 = nonlocking, detented, internal pilot,
minimum pilot pressure is 25 psi.
    1W1 = 12vdc 7.5 watt coil – pt# 54452-02
