Aux Filter Question(s)
Hi Everybody, This aux filter in the steer bay, how often do these need to be changed and how can I tell if it needs to be replaced? Does it just screw off (like an oil filter) or do I have to dismantle the top first? Also, should I get the replacment from Prevost or is there a better supplier on line?

I couldn’t tell by the picture, but usually they have a drain petcock at the bottom to purge the water out. Not sure if there is a filter replacement, but someone else might know.

on mine there is a side window that shows what appears to be a “scale” possibly indicating when to drain? I was just
wondering if there is a set schedule that you know of for draining these

Mine has a little plastic container that the hose is hooked to. In the steering bay mine just drains out on the metal floor, but it rarely has any moisture at all. I just routinely open the drain and let a little air out. The aux compressor makes water, so most of mine is caught in the plumbing bay before getting to the aux tank up front.

Yes it does have a water separator replaceable element in side. It turns a quarter turn and will drop down. There is a black O ring gasket. I would suggest you do not attempt to open it unless you have the oring for it. I know because I had to take it apart and it was shot.

Is that your aux air compressor I see in the photo? I thought all OEM installations used pancake compressors. Details? Comparison? Noise level? Pardon my ignorance…’guess I haven’t looked at that many coaches.

Tom’s compressor looks just like mine. When my turns on its fairly loud but shortly afterwards (a minute or so) it gets quieter. I don’t have a filter contected by my compressor though and now I wondering where mine might be? Do Liberty’s have two aux filters? I think I remember Jon saying at one time he had two of them.

Without looking to confirm it I have a small water trap immediately downstream from the compressor and within the various aux air lines in the steer compartment I also have two larger traps as shown in Tom’s photo. I rarely run my aux compressor (not that I am leak free, it’s just that we usually do not need air when parked) so the moisture I might get out of the various traps is almost nothing. That is also because at about 5000 miles when I do a service on the coach I also drain all of my air tanks, and replace the dryer element avery 2 years.
I have seen and heard of how moisture in the air system makes it do bad things so I’m a bit careful about keeping it dry.
