  • Raising coach/Driving

Posted by Davy on November 1, 2012 at 1:30 pm

The church I am going to Saturday is difficult to get into. It will be easy to high center at the entrance.

The manual says not to drive with the level low out of drive position.

Can I raise the front end and drive forward twenty feet or should I find another place to park?

If you are going in straight on and it does not appear you are going to twist the coach I don’t see an issue. I have been raising and lowering my coaches to go across high crowned railroad tracks, up or down driveway cuts, and even to avoid the crown at the top of my driveway every time I return or leave on a trip. So far so good.

I mention twisting because if you are fully raised and start up the driveway at an angle you are tending to subject the bus and its suspension to twisting forces. The only thing on the front suspension that limits up travel are the shock absorbers and when you try to compress the side first going up the driveway, you are putting some strong downward forces on the shock absorber eyes on the opposite side of the coach..

I believe the caveat against driving with it in the level low position is to avoid such unusual forces.
