Liberty Water Filters
Here’s a question for the water experts (Paul)…
Liberty has 2 whole house water filters . They put a high
quality water filter in one and a salt filter in the other. The salt
filter dispenses salt into the system as the pellets dissolve. I know
you need salt for water softeners for the purpose of regeneration. No
soft water system with the Liberty, but I do have an RO. I asked that
question while at Liberty, but the tech didn’t have a good answer. -

My Liberty only had the 3 element Culligan system, which included a sediment filter, activated carbon filter and RO membrane which ran to the refridgerator. It also had 2 whole-house filters, a sediment filter and an activated carbon filter. Unless you are using a water softener, I don’t know of any reason to deal with salt.
Most of the systems I’ve seen are by far more complicated, expensive and maintenance intensive than anyone will ever need in their bus.
I would stick with a basic whole-house style sediment filter along with an activated carbon filter. You will likely have an additional carbon filter at the refrigerator for drinking water and ice cubes. The whole idea is to have a water supply that is safe for consumption and relatively taste and odor free. None of us need pharmaceutical quality water to shower in or brush our teeth.
In my opinion, the Culligan 3 element system was unnecessary.
My advice….keep it simple.

Please do NOT consider me a water expert.
By the time I recd my Liberty, the 2 whole house filters were simply a coarse and a fine filter; that’s the way I left them. Also have the ‘Culligan 3 element system’ which is actually an RO system. The water is filtered through the 2 filters, then to all uses except the refrigerator which is supplied water after the RO for drinking and ice.
I have no idea where your salt comes into play but I believe the RO system may have value. While I have had my drinking water tested, I never have had the water BEFORE the RO tested to see if there is actually a difference.

Thanks guys, I just put Home Depot filters back in both whole house canisters. Mine is like yours, filtered twice with the whole house and I have the Culligan RO system feeding the fridge in-door water dispenser and ice cubes and the fridge also has a filter. We drink the fridge water.
The salt dispenser is now history…. Still would like to understand why they use it.

I also took out the salt filter a couple of years ago and replaced it with another carbon filter,I also do not understand the purpose it serves.someone should ask Frank the purpose of the salt filter.

As I was moving stuff around for the SeeLevel system, I installed a 3-M filtering system, model 3M WV-B3 Whole Recreation Vehicle/Marine Water Filtration System. It works very well and it is amazing how much crude it will catch. I cut one used filter apart just to see how “dirty” it was – it was shocking! The down side is the price of the filter plus 3-M recommends the filter be chaged every six months.
