Water inlet – black tank
Posted by Dorel on February 14, 2020 at 2:01 pmTrying to clean out the black tank, water does not go in at all…water pressure ok, tried couple hoses, no Luck… It’s all mechanical, I do not see any blockage unless inside the tank.
Last time I use it without issues was begging of January .
Any suggestions?Thx

Tank flush fittings often go bad. Do you know what you have? Can you reach the fitting in case you need to replace it? Most fittings are replaceable for less than $20. Just depends upon your setup.

Dorel,
You have to remove the fitting at the tank, it gets plugged up with calcium and completely blocks the spray nozzle. I did it on both my Marathon H’s. It’s a bitch to get to…

Bill, inlet pic attached (what I can see)
I used to hear the water spraying right by the inlet, now I believe I only hear some drops in to the tank…not sure if this is connected straight to the tank or like in the 2nd picture, (Thanks FFF)which is I believe what Tom is referring too…
Unless this is the entire unit connected straight to the tank? I could fit about 6 inch of wire hanger in there till I reach the end. Small dia due to quick connection, I will try to use wire camera to see what’s in there. I hate to take it all apart.
Tom, do you happen to have some pictures of when you cleaned your inlets? Connection was right behind panels or across the coach on passengers side?
Thank you!

Im wondering if you could attach an external standpipe/ hose that would extend above that vacuum breaker and fill it with limaway or another liquid and let it soak. Perhaps add a few lbs of air pressure behind it with the dump valve open.

Jeff, Thanks, this solution was tried before by others on the forum (2015 thread) and did not work apparently, very annoying

Ok, took stuff apart, see pics.
Determined that the nozzle is plugged since all hoses are energized when water pressure is on. See pics for water hose tracking to the black(…white …) tank…nice Saturday afternoon job…
Contacted, tabbdye@lakeviewrvsupply.com, about 3:45pm today, talked to the owner Tab, got instructions on repairing and new spare on order.
Great knowledgeable service, highly recommended, Texas located.Tab, will subscribe to PC and offer his services to the community.
Thanks all!

Dorel, I’m sure you know this, but the inlet line goes to a vacuum breaker inside the coach before it connects to the tank. On my 04 the Vacuum breakers were in the bathroom behind a cabinet one each for the sewer and black tank flush. So it’s not a home run from the inlet to the tank sprayer.

The plumbers on here must be going crazy because those tank flushing systems and devices are so contrary to plumbing codes around the country it is a wonder anyone is allowed to have them.
Does anyone really think they actually clean their tank when using them?

Splain to me how a water hose connected to say a Marathon tank rinse with a vacuum breaker at 45-50 psi is going to backflow through the hose and contaminate a city water supply?
I think a tank rinse is a good idea, what’s the harm? Wait, I forgot, a Liberty doesn’t have one.

Updates…
Removed / cleaned sprayer, redrilled / cleared holes with 1/64 drill, ensured water flows through/ no blockage, reinstalled using 100 % Silicone, will wait couple Hours cure before testing. Should be good to go…

Hi DT,
which panel did you have to take off to access the spray head? Mine (#526) is constipated too.
Thanks, Gerald

Gerald,
1st picture shows entire water bay panel
2nd picture small panel to remove for sprayer access, where the hose is connected
