  • Tecma Silence Plus Anyone?

Posted by Ronnie on August 24, 2017 at 10:17 pm

Considering replacing the Microphor with a Tecma Silence Plus in our 2005 Marathon XL2.

The Microphor has been very dependable over the years. BUT, most of the time when flushed, it emits an odor. I think it has to do with the fact that is has a hopper. It generally takes at least two to three flushes to clear the hopper, even with a small payload. We clean the hopper with enzymes, no help. There is plenty of holding tank deodorant. I have rebuilt it twice over the years. Water level in bowl is correct and so is air pressure.

Has anyone changed their Microphor for a Tecma or do you have a Tecma Silence Plus? Saw one today at Marathon FL and cycled it, bit didn’t get to put it through it’s paces.

    Thanks,

    Ronnie

Yes, we made the swap in March 2017. It will eliminate the odor and the need for air pressure. Downsides: uses more water, and the foot print is smaller leaving exposed screw holes. We like it better because the extra water gives a quality flush. And is made of good quality components. From memory, I believe it has an integrated macerater also.

Peter C. thought it was the best.

We also switched to a Tecma Silence Plus.

The Tecma Silence Plus works great everytime, never any problems. There are two flush options, one for liquids,

that uses less water, and one for solids. The water level is adjustable and you can “flush” liquids without

using any water by pushing both buttons at the same time and holding them for a few seconds. The footprint is

a little different, but mainly to the rear and mostly out of sight. Not an easy or direct swap by any means, but

we too followed the advice of Peter Campbell and have been very pleased.

    Thanks for the replies.

We have decided to make the change. We have some spare marble that will be enough to do the bathroom floor so all will look good. Also have 3 full sheets of matching laminate in case we need some to fill the sides and back. This will free up a little storage space in one of our bays also, as I carry an extensive inventory of Microphor parts! Probably will carry some spare parts for the Tecma, so no net gain in storage room after all.

    Thanks again.

    Ronnie,

You’ll be able to recoup some of your expense, the Microphor toilets are in demand, they don’t make them anymore and you can sell it. Once removed, if you can find the parts, repair it or sell as is.

We did the swap on our 05 Marathon. Best upgrade ever! Easy install. Worst part was running wiring from breaker panel to toilet. Yes foot print is smaller and you will need to address that. Love love love the crapper!

Don’t know how long the tecma has been out but a freind of mine had 2 installed on a boat a couple years ago and one has given them total hell. The other the main pump just seized. He wished he would have kept the old 12 volt Micrphor electric models he had in before.

Good idea on selling the Microphor. It is in great shape, except for the odor issue. We replaced the original Microphor with a new one a few years ago thinking it would solve the odor problem. It did not. I have all new replacement parts on board, except for hopper. It is white in color.

Tecma has been on the market 20 years at least that I know of.
