  • OTR Air – Rear COLD, Dash only COOL

Posted by Archived on June 5, 2019 at 6:47 pm

    Greetings 🙂

We are on the second leg of our first trip in our new-to-us 2007 Liberty H3 and noticed upon departing Stuart, FL the dash ac does not cool as well as the remainder of the bus.

I purchased an ac temperature probe thermometer at a Pilot truck stop and found the rear vents of the bus get down to 48 – 50 degrees while the dash ac vents only get down to +/- 71 degrees.

On the AC controller, I do push both the “driver” and “passenger” buttons to the “ON” position.

I called Nashville Prevost today and the very nice service writer stated I could of course come in, but I could first try closing (the pictured) engine hot coolant supply valve which I assume goes to the dash heater core.

We are currently at Mountain Falls resort in North Carolina and Prevost Nashville is about 350 miles away and in the opposite direction of our next stop.

From the info above, does it sound like turning off that hot engine coolant supply line will solve the issue? Might anyone have any other suggestions / experience? THANK YOU, Jeff & Sandy 2006 Prevost H3 Chassis w/ Bus Air

    P. S. – I am a little concerned as a friend now also here in Mountain Falls in his 2007 chassis year model Liberty said his dash air is VERY COLD and we found the same coolant line was also open (like mine was)

Jeff, I cannot comment on the air, but the photo you posted shows the nut that holds the valve handle on the stem is missing. You might want to get a nut and replace the missing one before you lose that handle with the information tag. Hope you get cooled off.

    Jeff & Sandy,

We leave our heat valves open all year every year and the dash air circuit blows just as cold as the main cabin circuit, mid to low 40s.

We did have to replace the dash circuit expansion valve when we first purchased our bus 5+ yrs ago because the dash circuit didn’t blow cold, only ambient.

PS: our toad is an FJ Cruiser too, since 2009.

Behind the front bumper is the electronic solenoid that is to shut off coolant to the area. Check both sides of the and is the temp the same (with engine up to temp) If yes than that could be the issue..Otherwise you could have a expansion valve at the dash unit partially plugged.

Jeff, I thought of one thing that may be affecting your dash air … the AC filter in the front.(lower dash area, passenger side) If dirty, could be restricting air flow. We sometimes forget the AC filters and that is why I have them on a schedule. My front OTR air will freeze you out.
