    Camping at 8000 ft. Webasto starts and runs but lots of black smoke ,then it will putter out

    clean out soot twice and still soots out.took casing off unit to give it more air,still black smoke,Wondering if old unit just won’t run well at altitude.put new nozzle in checked rpms on moter still smokes.it is a 2010 burner.

    any quests.?

    One the bottom side of the black burner case is a round air shutter. Loosen the phillips screw and move it as close to the heater tank as you can. This will open the air shutter as far as possible.

    Cleaning the combustion chamber, the U-channel chamber and the flame sensor helps also once the shutter is full open.

    Webasto burners are sensitive to too little air but, thankfully, not to to much air.

    Thanks rudy for response.i all ready tried that and I also took motor casing completely off and still black smoke.One thing I was thinking is it gets pretty cold out hear maybe fuel has jelled a bit I might change filter and treat existing fuel in tank.Never did this at normal altitudes.i have not tested fuel pressure in fuel pump yet.I was hoping there would be easy fix.Or these older units just can’t run at 8000′
