Due to variations sometimes done by converters I bet the only way top get the correct charge is to use the pressure gauges.

My friend neighbor has the truck center that is going to charge it I will supply compressor-oil-dryer, so if you don’t know how much 134a goes in you go off PSI? Doesn’t Prevost install the dash air?

I refer to those old compressors like you have and I had on my 99 CC as the old Ford type.

I think they usually take around 6 pounds but as Jon stated the different converters my have altered the routing of the hoses but as a rule Prevost did do the installs of the dash air compressors.

Like Tom said they are cheap. I was told years ago to convert that to the new round compressors was pretty costly because of the conversion work on hoses and other stuff.

I think I was told the current hoses were not compatible with the newer freon the round compressors use.

I know it’s a PITA to keep messing with them every couple of years but it doesn’t cost near what trying to convert would be.

I think Buddy is referring to the old R-12 systems and the Freon hoses not being compatible with 134. Back in the day, converting from R-12 to 134, Prevost would want all hoses to be replaced, a major expense. The York 210L compressor was the same, but needed mineral oil instead of Estes. At least that’s what I remember, having had an R-12 system in my 94 Liberty.

The problem with changing to rotary is for those who don’t have barrier hoses on the bus. The York or Ford style use a POE style oil and the rotary use a PAG style oil which will disintegrate non barrier hoses. you can almost be assured if you have R-134A you have barrier hoses. Simply look on the hose and check the nomenclature on the hose.

Mine has barrier hoses, 1997 chassis.

The new compressor uses 10 oz of PAG oil old compressor used Ester oil both uses 134a freon. New in 96 Prevost used a Tecumseh compressor, In 2006 as per date code last owner had Prevost a New compressor and it was a TCCI brand and I just got a Quote from Prevost and they still use TCCI and tag says PAG oil.The Tech from TCCI said usually a shaft seals from lack of use and seal dries out, I told him I never needed it so it wasn’t used for 2 or 3 years, He said exercises it at least 4 to 5 times a year.
