What is the maximum amps you can safely pull on 50 amp plug in. I would like to run two roof air conditioners while plugged into 50 amp service. When they are on I’m pulling 35.6 amps. with nothing else on. Are these amps within the safety limits?…………thank you

Remember you have 50 Amps on each leg, so you can draw a total of 100 Amps.

    Sir

you have a 4 wire plug

    1 wire is ground

    1 wire is the neutral

1 wire is hot. you draw 50 amps

1 wire is also hot. you can also draw 50 amps

for a total of 100 amps

but 50 amps per side is maximum. I wouldn’t run a load for hours at 50amps

but no problems with 30–45 ish

    I hope this helps

You’re using 50 amps. So that tells me you have both A/C ‘s on the same leg…..Thus your 35 amps.

Example ……Marathon suggest we run A/C units #1 and #3 at the same time. I then go look at the amp gauge which has both A/C running with 13 amp draw on each. If I want more A/C then I usually turn on the one that does not have the most draw or the leg that does not have the electric hot water heater.

Spreading your load and managing your use assures trouble free power and rarely will you have a problem. Another management is doing “soft starts ” on A/C units …bringing each A/C up and running then starting another A/C.

You’ll know if your spreading the load correctly as the universal load tester is the ladies hair dryer….

In Moab Ut last week were running 3 roof airs ( 107* ) pulling 35 amps on one leg and 15-18 amps on the other leg. No problems
