  • Wabasco Heaters

Posted by Bob on June 10, 2014 at 12:18 pm

    Hi,

Have a 1992 Prevost Angola 40 ft. Having problems lighting off my Wabasco Diesel heaters. I go to the control and turn them on, and I made sure the little fuel valve was open. Although I get electrical power and the thing is running, it wont light off. No Heat! Ideas????

    ALSO…another heating problem.

I have the Cruise Air A/C and Heating system also on board. Air Conditioning works great at all three stations, each with its own control. Rear, Mid ship and Forward. But when I push the heat button and set up the temperature I want, I get NO HEAT? I read the books I have on both the systems mentioned above, but no luck. Had this coach only one year, so maybe I am doing something wrong?? Input appreciated. Thanks, Bob

    Bob,

This is strictly a guess, but is it possible your CruiseAirs were upgraded at some point in time to have SMX controls?

The reason I ask is because your vintage coach may have originally been built with the 3 knob Cruise Air controls that required manual adjustment of the temperature and fan speeds. The SMX controls when introduced allowed automatic control of the temperature and fan speeds so owners upgraded them.

The controls likely had the selector for heat as well as cooling but it is possible the units were strictly AC units and were not heat pumps. I don’t know how you would determine the answer unless Panterra has some information on your coach.

As to the Webasto you should hear all the sounds accompanying the start of the cycle. You should hear the fan then you should hear the pump and igniter, and if you don’t hear that initialy it could be a control issue. There are a lot of reasons why a Webasto will not fire, including a bad nozzle (the #1 problem), a bad coil, badly adjusted electrodes, a pump issue, etc.

Bob, I had a 1990 with Cruiseairs and they were for cooling only, which was typical for the vintage. As Jon mentioned, the controlers may have been changed out with ones that have heat controls, but if that won’t change what the units will do.

Regarding the Webasto, the easiest thing to do is clean the sight glass inside the housing. If you take the unit apart you will see a small square of glass that the flame sensor looks through. It gets soot on the glass with use. If it is not clean the burner won’t operate properly. Another issue to check is the inline fuel filter. They get overlooked during maintenance and yours might be clogged. Try both of these easy remedies. Good luck.
