  • Replacing SCS basement air units

Posted by John on September 19, 2016 at 1:17 pm

I have a 97 xl 45′ converted by American carriage (no longer in business) . I have 2 basement SCS air conditioning units. I have spent the last 2 years working on and fighting with these units. Time to upgrade. Would like input on replacement units

These are my concerns and issues to consider.

    1. I do not want to remodel the coach to upgrade AC units.

    2. Roof airs are loud especially if you are running 4 or 5 of them.

    3. Does anyone make a good basement AC Unit?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Coleman-Mach is the unit normally used for a retro-fit. It’s not inexpensive, but cheaper than any of the alternatives. Geo.

    John,

I much prefer the roof units but, like you, I do not like the noise either.

We replaced our Coleman’s last year with Attwood 15k btu heatpumps. They have two motors so the outside condensor fan is always on high while the interior fan can be left on low. There are numerous other good points such as the plate that sandwiches the roof unit to the coach is a ductwork that smoothly changes the air flow from straight down to fore and aft.

My wife will tell you they are very much quieter than the Coleman or Doemetics we had earlier. You might just be please if you can listen to some like we did before purchasing.

    Good luck in you quest.
