  • OTR shaft seal

Posted by William on June 14, 2020 at 12:00 pm

I see the instructions on replacing the seal on the shaft, looks like it could be one of 2 seals, but not sure about taking the pulley off first. There is a bolt in the center that seems to be securing the pulley. Is that all you have to take loose?

If you are talking about the clutch it is set up to be pushed or pulled off using a 7/8 bolt. I am not sure of the number of threads per inch.

I saw a professional tap it off with a hammer but I’m not convinced that was wise.

Jon, I was speaking of the pulley and clutch, I assume they would come off as a unit.

They do and that is why the 7/8 bolt is used as a pusher to pop the assembly off the shaft so you can get at the seal.

Thanks Jon, now I understand how it works.

I’d have to look, but I think there is a smaller bolt in the center that needs to come out before the pulley/clutch can come off.

Yes there is a small bolt that needs to come out first.

Is that a Carrier O5G Bus 41 CFM like on the older coaches? . I bought a Carrier unit with Pulley, Clutch assembly and found out that’s all mine needed at the time was the seal. That’s where the leak was.. Had a place out of Waco, Texas replace mine.

In a post last Year someone mentioned looking at the Prevost MX manual. How do I find this?

The Prevost web site, under service and maintenance has everything, including how to rebuild and service purchased components and assemblies. There are even links to those purchased items and their maintenance, operating and service manuals.

Everyone should spend an evening playing on that site to see the immense amount of information available.
