Inverter replacement
Posted by Mike on January 29, 2017 at 12:09 pmI have the original Freedom 25 -24v in my coach and am considering upgrading to pure sine wave units. Looks like the only (best) choice to maintain the 24v with at least 2500 watts is to jump up to the magnum ms4024 units.
Anyone see any any potential issues with moving up to 4000 watt unit ? I won’t be using the extra power / just want high pure sine wave.

Magnums, call our Advertiser Inverter Services.

Put magnums in there are great and if your watchdog craps out you can bypass it and start gen from the inverter panels inside coach

Same for us. Jeff at ETLC installed Magnums for us last month. They are performing masterfully. The only thing better than the inverters was the quick change out by Jeff and Josh. Two thumbs up.

Rocky,
If you do change inverters the reasons for the suggestions to use Magnums are they are pure sine wave. As you service or replace appliances or electronic devices you will find the modified sine wave inverters you now have may not work with some items, or at least may not work well. Some newer refrigerators need pure sine wave for example.
The second reason for the Magnum suggestion is the switch is easily done because the remotes are a direct drop in for your current remotes so the switch is very easy and does not require new wires or modifications to your panel.

That is not the only reason Jon , it will also be easy if the watchdog craps out to have it start from the new panels and it can start if the air conditioners need to come on because it is getting hot inside coach or batteries are low , of which the watchdog will not start the gen because it is getting hot inside and you want the airs on

The Magnum retrofit sounds good. I have a ME-3112 unit and remote already, now I have to find a second one matched to be ready when the Hearts crap out….
I imagine you would use a Magnum AGS-N Network Module model somewhere in the Inverter bay and let the Magnum remotes control the Automatic Generator Start features based on desired setup from inside the coach.
The AGS module, however needs to be wired to the Generator for the autostart function to work.
The question is… Do you wire inside the panel in the converter compartment that is linked with the Watchdog above or scrap all that and go directly to the Generator Start/Stop/prime harness before the panel ? I would still like to have a way to start/stop the Gen from inside…..
Can it be wired as a hybrid system so that if the Watchdog module only is disconnected (ribbon cable), it allows the buttons inside to Start/Stop the generator from the main panel and driver be still active, of course less the Auto button ?

What did the Change out cost You ? I am going to have Three Lists
1) Have To Do List
2) Want To Do List
3) Wish List
Thanks,
Rocky

What would be the prefered way to go if you could buy them both at the same price ?
Magnum ME series- Modified Sine model ME3112 – 3100W, 12v or…..
Magnum MS series – Pure Sine (true sine) model MSH3012M- 3000W -12V
I would of course get 2 matched of the same model to replace the Xantrex Heart 12V 2500W I have in the coach now…when the time comes….or sooner
Both above models with work with the ME-ARC-50 remotes and ME-AGS-N auto gen start module.
I have a ME3112 but I can use it on another coach if the MS series would be a better fit and offer advantages for the Prevost….
I am upgrading the coach with new generation LED TV’s, new convection microwave, residential fridge, Bluray DVD players, AV sound system HDMI driven etc.

We’ve used the MSH4024RE on a handful of replacements. Have liked the results thus far.

Just be aware of one important thing.
The way your coach and its inverters are wired you have everything sized into and out of the inverters for your current 2500 watts. (#10 wire). Because your new inverters will be 4000 watts you have the potential to use that capacity inadvertently and continously so the wire size is now inadequate. It should be #8 wire.
The inverters you have cannot put out more continuous power than the wire size can handle. The existing inverters were the circuit protection between the inverter and the electric panel by virtue of the limited output.
I think you made a good selection, but during the installation of the new ones rather than pulling new larger wire which would be difficult, install a 30 amp fuse or breaker on the 120V inverter output of the new inverters to prevent overload of the wires.
