  • Xantrex SW 3012 – Battery Change – SCP

Posted by Ronald on July 13, 2019 at 2:55 pm

I put in new inverter batteries today. The system control panel comes on for maybe a minute and then shuts off. I connected to shore power and it does the same thing. I disconnect from shore it does the same thing. Disconnect shore and turn on generator and I get nothing from the panel.

I need to change the battery type to AGM. The system control panel does not stay on long enough to make any changes.

I am traveling tomorrow for three hours. Would like to get this resolved before going on the road.

    Update on this issue.

i am getting a green light on the front of the inverter. I am not getting anything from the SCP. I removed the SCP from inside the coach and direct connected to the Inverter. Nothing.

Unfortunately, I think my fridge is connected to the inverter. It is starting to defrost. Plug in to shore power and get nothing from the fridge. Disconnect from shore power and start generator. Nothing from the fridge.

I have never had one issue with the inverter until changing the batteries today. No issues ever with the SCP until changing batteries today. No issues with fridge until today.

Before changing the batteries I disconnected from shore power. Shut off 24V and 12V, and shut off master switch inside the coach. Disconnected the positive cable from the inverter. Then replaced the batteries. Reversed order for installing the batteries.

Help is appreciated. We would like to make our trip to Charleston tomorrow.

I hate to say this, because I know you have probably already checked.

If the last thing that changed was to replace the old batteries with new ones and everything worked before the change and did not work after the battery change, then my guess is a problem with the rewiring of the batteries.

Do you have 12 volt or 24 volt inverters?

Have you tested with a volt meter the output from the batteries at the location that actually sends power to the inverters?

If the inverters shut are not passing power, my guess is that they are sensing a error that is causing the shutdown. Could be under or over DC voltage if the batteries were not correctly wired up.

Just changing batteries should not cause all your problems, unless there is a wiring issue or you have a bad battery in the mix.

Good luck with the trouble shooting.

While cleaning last weekend the old batteries went completely to zero. I had no lights on the interior at all. So I installed these new batteries.

With the new batteries I have lights through. Normal action is for the microwave and fridge to turn on last. Microwave comes on no issue. Fridge does not come on.

I need for the system control panel (scp) to come on in order to change the battery type to AGM, and to check the other settings.

OK, SCP is the remote I assume, your inverter should have the same function screen on top. I doubt battery type is the problem though, if you put in AGM the wet battery settings are almost the same.
