NEW STYLE DASH QUITS WORKING
If you have the new style dash introduced around 2000 I would urge you to see what it is like to lose it instantly.
On my XLII the first circuit breaker from the left in the electrical compartment under the driver’s side window supplies power to the dash. My circuit breaker tripped and I can tell you it will be impossible to buy excitement like that when driving.
All instruments except air and voltmeter go to zero. That includes the tach and speedometer. Even though the engine continues to run fine you see the oil pressure and turbo boost and water temp and fuel gauge, and the speedo and tach stop reading. That is accompanied by warning chimes. Your heat and AC controls stop working. You have no indicator lights to tell you any warning symbols. In other words everything is turning to tapioca and you have no clue why.
When you pull over and apply the emergency brake the warning chimes stop.
I started trouble shooting thinking the key switch had failed. I cycled it a few times and no change.
Shortening this story, I ended up in the electrical compartment over the steer bay and found the first CB had tripped. It is indicated with the center pin sticking out. I reset the breaker and all is good.
From this I wish I had known a failure of the dash electrical power is the cause. Nothing on the coach was actually wrong, but you don’t know that. I would suggest if you get a chance, start your coach, note all the lit sybols and sounds and see how the gauges all read. Then with the coach running release the emergency brake, and then trip the breaker. Make note of all that stops working. Then shut the coach down, and do a restart. Notice there are no longer the light displays and the gauges all are not functioning. The reason for doing this is if the failure occurs when it is not safe or convenient to get off the road to a safe place, you will see what happens if the breaker trips or something interrupts power to the dash. If it is not a surprise if or when it happens you can deal with it safely.
