HELP! Ceiling lights randomly coming on and off
Posted by TJ on June 17, 2018 at 10:36 amSince 4:00am this morning our ceiling lights keep randomly coming on and going off but it doesn’t indicate on the crestron that they’re on. I’ve turned off the lighting master and it still happens. I have turned the breaker off and on and it doesn’t fix the problem. Any ideas?

Hi Dick,
i have no dedicated breaker for the crestron. I have three built in units and one portable unit. One built in unit is in the control panel and it can be shut off via outlet breaker but the two in wall units in the bedroom can’t be shut off it seems. Must be a breaker under the coach somewhere I assume.

My Crestron system is plugged into the aft outlets and the breaker is in the electrical panel. Maybe yours is the same ? Aft or fwd outlets might be worth a try.
Cheers, Diane

I agree with rebooting and the advice about rear outlets is correct.
If that doesn’t do the job of curing the problem look on the rear wall of the electric bay and see if there is a red light going on and off in sync with the lights. If so that is an indicator of the relay that is switching the power to the lights intermittently. That relay could be the issue. I had one of those small greenish relays develop an internal problem that got it so hot it malfuncted (a very technical term) and replacing it cured the problem.

Thanks Jon,
i did check the relay area and no blinking lights. One steady red light over one of the relays but lights going on and off don’t seem to affect it. I shut the entire coach down, turned off the inverters and the house batteries and unplugged. Waited a few minutes and powered back up. They still come on randomly. Sometimes they turn off by themselves but usually we have to hit the lighting master button to turn them off.

I would still focus on the relays until I could rule them out as a potential cause.
Have someone cycle the lighting master on and off until you can identify the relay that controls that (or whatever light circuits are going on and off) and just for grins replace that relay or relays with another one that is known to work. (I carry a box of spares of them because they are cheap and do fail)
If is isn’t a bad relay I am out of ideas.

In the second bay drivers side are probably 2 green devices that will be on the right wall. They have LED lights on them. They are dimmer devices. There will be a plug on the top. Unplug one at a time until the lights go out…You then have the correct dimmer. It is called a Paradigm control DC-15

Hi Jeff,
i called Troy at Liberty this morning. He tells me it sounds like a dimmer control going bad. Unfortunately I don’t have a spare and the closest repair facility is Marathon in Coburg. However their service is backed up through middle of July and they are unwilling to fit us in. Reinforces my decision to not have a Marathon coach! I’ll look for those and try your suggestion. Thanks.

The DC-15 board is getting hard to get, I got a spare on UPS that will be here today. The price is 2950 exchange 3450 outright, I bought it outright for a spare. It has to come from Canada there might be some other source but I didn’t find one so I got it from the guy that made them.

Hey Jeff
i found the dimmers and unplugged each one and neither turns the lights off.

Hi Darrell,
Do you know the trick how to get that thing out of the wall? I don’t see any clips or anything.
