engine bay lights
I have two lights in my engine bay, one right inside the back doors up above, and one to the right above the chassis batteries up above.
Both are round, neither have a switch.
They do not come on when opening the back doors or the little side door where the chassis batteries are.
I have looked all over the engine bay and side bay and have not found a switch to turn them on.
I have needed them several times now like this weekend when I replaced the chassis batteries so I thought I’d ask if anyone knows how to operate those two lights.
I did see a couple of switches on the large sheetmetal electrical bay above and one said light but it does not operate either light.

Mine has a “Bay light delete” switch by the entrance door. One of the Vantare switches. Also, the Prevost chassis switch must be on for them to work if that’s not it.

I too have a panel button for disabling bay lights however the other bay lights do work so it must be some other issue.

I may get out the tester and see if there is power to them and then if so check the bulbs. They could both be out. Although I suspect I have to turn them on somehow as I don’t see any switches on the doors like the bays have.

The switch for the lights in the engine area on my 97 and my current 06 is located on the RH side of the electrical box above the engine.

In my previous post I mentioned that switch but it is not operating the lights. So it sounds like it should be so I’ll need to do some diagnostics then. thanks

Start engine, flip engine room light switch, both bay lights should work.
I asked the light question …… this is the Prevost response.
Due to some bus drivers who turned on engine bay lights then either forgot or didn’t think it was a big deal to turn them off ….found battery dead the next day.
The above prevented the re-acquiring problem to fleet operators

You were right.when I started the coach and then tried the switch the lights came on. I will want to add some other lighting for when I do work since I can’t run the coach when doing work like changing my batteries etc. Thank you for your feedback.

On my 97 the lights were similar to the side marker lights only with a clear lens and they were inadequate. I added three 12″ fluorescent light fixtures across the ceiling of the engine area behind the rear cap, and supplemented them with 2 halogen work lights a little to the side on the left and right.
The lighting was amazing. It was bright enough to do surgery back there. That same update is on my list of things to do on my current coach. I did run a dedicated circuit for the added lights along with a new water proof switch located on the end of the electrical box.

Prevost way of doing things.
After repeated dead batteries on seated buses when the driver would flip on engine bay lights then forget to turn them off.
Next day dead bus batteries. Prevost fix….. tie the engine room lights to work with the engine running.

Mine works with the ignition key turned on and the engine does not have to be actually running.

Yes….. key on-light on. Not necessary to start engine.
Drivers were walking away not knowing they had failed to turn off bay lights.
