Look in the engine area. On that vintage coach there are two sheet metal tubes running from the end of the manifolds to a Y going into the turbo.
If one of them has split or broke that is the loss of boost and there is likely a lot of black soot around it.
If it is one of the pipes I described you can get them from a Detroit Dealer. They are not cheap, but the good news is with a wrench you can loosen the clamps, pop the bad one from its place and put in the new one. Be careful because there is an asbestos gasket the clamp draws the tube and manifold tight to seal exhaust and you do not want to damage that.
If it is not a broken pipe, look for black soot around the cast iron manifolds and if you are lucky the problem will be a blown gasket. If not so lucky the casting will be cracked. They are not so simple to replace and if your luck is like mine (bad) removing the nuts holding the manifold will result in one or more of the studs coming loose and in that case you are going to lose coolant.
My last guess is the turbo has locked up and is not providing turbo boost. Check the other stuff first.

thank you! I will run back to where coach is and let hubby know. I will be back!! – need wifi…
any idea anout bout heavy duty mechanic in the area that you trust?

that engine would be an 8V92 you get the same results if the blower locked up, by the way the blower charges the tubo charger and the blower is gear driven. Maybe this will help, I would call Detroit Diesel.
Good luck

I don’t have a mechanic for you but Marathon is about 4 hours from you. They may have some people they use in the area for engines. Their number is. 800 234-9991Good luck!

if i remember right the 8v92 had a airbox emerg shut down lever (electrical actuated ) that would cause the smytoms you are having … not sure if you have that or not ! but if it is all you need to do is reset it manually …

Has anyone heard if they back up and running, are they being taken care ?

8V71 has that shut off but the 8V92 does not. I would check the left exaust expansion pipe first for a break and also the right exaust pipe. The flanges will rust so look close.

Tim & Kathy,
Take Brian’s advise and contact the folks he suggested.
-
And especially provide all of us with a description of what was wrong and how it got resolved.
A lot of people offer advice based on the information they receive on a post and give it their best guess as to how to resolve the problem. Then when we never hear the outcome we all wonder if our advice was valid or if we were lacking information or if we were wrong.

hello everyone!!!
thank you all very much, I sent Jon a message as I wasn’t able to reply to my thread- he has fixed me up…
well we we got towed from long beach, by tlc towing. (Great guys) to ridgfield Washington to the western star northwest shop, had us in by noon and out the door by 2pm!!! Also fantastic people!
turns out some poor wiring and a bad fuse holder were the culprits!
We are in Tillamook now after enjoying cannon beach for the morning. Ps. Do not go up to the state park in cannon beach with coach- we did and it was not pretty.. take the toad! Ecola is not coach friendly. I missed the – no trailers sign – hubby not happy nor was the transmission.
I may may be back to the service shop for transmission work …:(

hi there. I am pretty sure I saw your great looking coach at Richmond Prevost this morning. I am having some AC issues looked at. Tim drop me an email anytime you need or want to talk to a local Liberty Prevost owner.
