Prevost Virgin. Sigh. Door lock issues.
Hi there.. I purchased a used 1988 Prevost Marathon XL II. Lovely bus, but on the trip home, we stopped
to have lunch and upon returning to the bus, the mechanical door lock was stuck. There was no way it was going to turn and be unlocked. After calling 5 locksmiths (really it was the same guy answering under different locksmith names), we located a locksmith to come look at it. He tried to get it to come loose and after an hour, we decided it had to be drilled out. Yahoo. He drilled for what seemed to be an eternity (maybe 15 minutes), tried to get it unlocked and couldn’t. He finally gave up and left us stranded there. Fortunately I had quite a few tools with me, so I worked at it until I got the whole tumbler to come out and was able to unlock the door. I need a replacement tumber now. Where can I get those parts, or should I go to a locksmith and hope they can get it right?
I love the bus, it drives like a dream. I’m refitting all the electronics inside, new backup camera, gps nav computer going in (I design those, so if you want one built for your conversion, just ask..). If you guys have any links you could share with me, on the maintenance and inner workings of this Prevost, I’d appreciate it a lot.. it’s fairly overwhelming.. right now I’m chasing an air leak in a valve up front.. and then comes replacing the 8 BAD house batteries.. ugh! Help!

Prevost does not supply that dead bolt anymore and if u do find one you won the lottery , I would have taken the passenger side window out it takes about five mins then opened door from inside then you could take door panel off from inside and seen what was wrong with it,,,,
As far as what to maintain read through the posts and it will cover just about any questions you have and read the prevost manuals for your bus or go to the prevost car web site they have them onlineEnjoy the ride

With a little time spent searching for Owners Manuals, Maint Manuals, Air Diagrams, etc you will find more information then you ever thought possible. Prevost really does have a LOT of information on line and it is a big help in understanding the different systems.

Hey there.. what kinda of dollars am I gonna spend on a set of 8 Lifelines for this 1988 Marathon XL.. they look like 4d’s to me.. I’m not sure the prior owner wired them properly, so I’m going to go through the schematics and the calibration manual for the inverters before I go stuffing a new set in there..
