We had a similar experience, after stopping at The Big Texan in Amarillo we got back to the bus and couldn’t unlock the door using the key lock..called a locksmith figuring he could get it open..he couldn’t as he said the problem wasn’t with the locking deadbolt? After spending another hour or so wiggling the key it finally opened..2 grateful Bulldogs able to pee!

The next day the same thing happened only this time we were trapped inside the bus..we couldn’t move the deadbolt to unlock the door! After taking the door panel off I found that the arm for the keypad had losened up, dropped down and somehow jammed the mechanism for the deadbolt.

Prevost did not install keyless entry in the XL series until 1999 ( eff. with X-6680). It was standard in the H series shells. Liberty bought the system pieces from Prevost and made their own installation. This first system was simply a mean to control the deadbolt. It had no alarm function and there was no key fob, I believe. When the system was installed in 1999 it was the better Ford system with alarm and keyless remotes. It was a completely different module than previously used in the H series.

The setup that Liberty used to install the early system would have to be acquired from them as the would have had to make some pieces to adapt the control to the handle system in the XL. Check with Bill Doherty at Liberty in North Chicago as to how it was done. It may be that there is something wrong with the Prevost handle and rods and such that are causing the problem you describe.

I think you said the key turns but the lock would not retract. If that is the case graphite will not help. Unless the key is hard to turn it is not a problem in the cylinder. If lubrication is required it need to be liquid so it will penatrate.Graffite will just lay in the bottom. Speaking from past experience as a locksmith.

    Solved it.

Sorry for not updating this thread

    I took apart the door.

For anyone who encounters the same problem:

I thoroughly lubricated the mechanism and was able to get it to work by aligning the square box that surrounds the lock.

If it sticks, I turn the key to full lock and then it unlocks.
