Serpentine Belt for Fan Clutch Walking
Hi,
I did a post trip check of the engine and saw the serpentine belt for the fan clutch had walked towards th gearbox by 2 grooves. So I started looking for why. Tensioner air bag good, bearings tight, fan clutch good. Then i checked the Idler or tensioner and it wobbled slghtly left to right. Looked at the mounting and it is mounted on a single pivot stud. Tightened the bolt almost 1 turn. It now does not wobble. I am pretty sure that is what caused it to walk.
You may want to check this nut on your coach. It can be reached pretty easily.
Tomorrow I will order a new belt, I will use my spare but want another one. The bad news some of the belt got into the grearbox seal, so I will order that as well. Took the gearbox apart today all else is good. The oil level was still between full and add, so no other damage. Just the seal.
This had to be what caused it as ll else is good checked the alignment between the gearbox and fan clutch, it is good as well.
