Entry Door Keypad question
A guy I work with has an 02 Liberty XLII and is not on this site so I thought I would post a question for all to help him out.
The key pad on the entry door will unlock the door & baggage doors 100% of the time. When locking the door using the 7/9 combo, the entry door will only lock sometimes but you can always hear the baggage doors lock (or click if they are already locked). He said the entry door will always lock in the morning when the weather is cooler but never seem to lock in the afternoon when the door has heat on it (from the sun or as the day warms up).
I have not tried the key fob to see if everything works properly. Also, there is a 9 in his entry code so its not a problem with the button. The push pin is making contact with the door shutting b/c the indirect entry lights are going out when shutting the door.
Any suggestions on what to check or why the lock will only work intermittently?

We have the same problem with our 05XLii. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Can’t put time of day to it though. Last time we were at Marathon Texas they said the solenoid was bad. We will see, have appt there on Monday and that is one of the issues to fix.

I will be interested to see what they find out. Would I be correct in assuming the solenoid is in the door or could it be in the dash with the brain? Again, not my coach so I havent been in a hurry to pull this guys coach apart.

Seems silly, but any chance the entry door isn’t getting completely shut? Sounds like the dead bolt could be engaging, but making contact with the door casing instead of going into its lock pocket.

The door is shutting all the way. If the deadbolt was not lining up, I would at least hear a click in the door when the deadbolt would try to slide. On top of that, when he has to use the key to lock the door there is no problem turning the key and sliding the deadbolt into place. Very intermittent problem; one time it can work 5 times in a row and the next time it wont lock at all by the keypad.

That key pad is a Ford product so you might call you location Ford dealership and see if they have every seen this problem or have solutions for you. I think Ford still has the patent on that product. I have never had a problem with it on my Excursion. I love the feature.

My keypad failed only when in direct sunlight, but since your keypad is locking the bays, my thinking is that your problem is likely elsewhere.

I think you just need to open the main door up and fiddle with the solenoid and it’s wires. Probably a loose connection somewhere in there. I had a similar problem with one of my bay doors.

I bet you are right. We are at a show in OH for the month of October and will add it to the list of “stuff that needs attention” when we get home. I have my own list going right now but will suggest looking inside the entry door.

Update to my earlier post. Went to Marathon Texas, had the solenoid replaced thought it would be easy fix, they had never seen the problem. about 8 hr later they finally “fixed”it. It opens with the inside button every time. Problem is now it won’t lock with the code, so having to use the key. Lots of time and effort, change in symptoms but still not fixed. Do think it is a solenoid problem however.

My biggest fear is having somebody fool with it for 8 hours and not fix it in the end! Sounds like we still have the same problem; the door doesnt lock with the code. We have not had time to look at it yet but will EVENTUALLY figure it out!
