BELT for D.D. upgraded alt. belt tensioner kit?
Posted by Archived on May 27, 2022 at 1:19 amCan someone tell if this the right alternator belt to go with the D.D. alternator upgrade kit. Although the Ebay ad said kit #23527060 the box the kit came in said #23527061. I heard the kits are the same, but the belts that come with them are different.
The numbers on the belt don’t match any that were listed as being correct on the other thread and l’m not sure what brand belt it is to try and cross reference.

That was exactly what happened with the ebay kit I ordered. Correct belt is 1875mm, Goodyear Gatorback #4120738/12PK1875. Seller sent correct one after contacting him.

Thanks Billy-
Yes, I had read your post before purchasing the kit, that’s how I knew to ask the seller about it. I got a quick response and he sent out another belt immediately which I got yesterday. But it’s the exact same belt as the one that came in the kit. Maybe this is the right belt, but I don’t see any length measurements on it. Hoping someone recognizes this belt and knows if it’s the right one.

Turns out I got the DD belt in the kit, and the 23539139 is the right belt.

I had read over on the other prevost site, that you got the alternator vent hose upgrade kit. Was that a Detroit Diesel made kit? Do you know what the part number is?
Thanks

Detroit Diesel 50DN alternator vent line kit, DD part #23528624, or build my own. It’s intended to help reduce oil leaks from the 50DN alternator. Original DD bulletin #14-60-00. Around 2002-2003 and later this kit was installed as original equipment from the factory.
Don’t forget DDC Gear case stiffener kit# 23529492

Don-
I guess I will be building one. Couldn’t find a single lead either in a general search, nor ebay. What length did you make yours?
Yes, I also got the gear case stiffener kit.
Thanks!

Just saw your post I’m sure what Don listed is correct. I didn’t get why the updated vent line/location would help……until I got the kit. Although the line size didn’t look much different to me, the fittings were twice the size (1/8 updated to 1/4 I think). Which is why the location moved to the larger hole on opposite side.

Billy-
That makes sense. Sure wish those kits were still available.
I will definitely use the bigger 1/4″ fittings. If possible, would you measure the length of hose between the fittings and report back, that would help out a lot to make sure it’s the right length.
Thanks!

I can do better than that – here is kit component list showing hose length at 21.40 inches.
Also an eBay seller that shows to have 2. I found my purchase receipt – I paid $100 in 2020. So that seems high – but what isn’t anymore.

WoW this is GREAT! now with the measurment I know a place that will make it up for me Thank You!!!
I checked out the ebay seller, 220 negative ratings in 12 months, 33 in the past month, most claiming they never received the item, I will pass on this one, but keep my eyes open.

I don’t blame ya there – I didn’t look at ratings or anything else, just the listing. Sounds like you’ve got it handled.
