Front spare tire release???
Hello all.
I’ve recently acquired our first Prevost, a 1994 H3-40 , it was seated until two days ago.
It’s recent maintenance level was not what you might call acceptable.
I think they broke the release cable for the spare tire compartment, seeing as I can’t find one anywhere.Can anyone tell me exactly how the release function works. I can see fairly well into the compartment, no spare tire, but I don’t see where the release cable would even attach.
I’m thinking of pulling the windshield wiper fluid container and half crawling in there to look closer…

For future reference…
At least the 1994 H3-40 front tire compartment is opened with a wrench like tool found under the front passenger seat area ( in the bay).
There are two large nut looking things that stick out from the bottom of the bumper. Loosen those with the wrench and the front bumper just dropped down!

Interesting. My 1988 XL had a similar setup with the 2 bolts going thru the center of the bumper.

I wonder exactly what models have the nuts in the bumper and not a cable release?
It’s a bit annoying, but not overly difficult to get the bumper released, but it does take a bit of strength!
I also want to see a cable release mechanism to see if I could add it to my Coach…

My 93 Liberty H3-40 has a release mechanism that I have never paid much attention to but here goes…
In the center of the center section of the bumper, behind the bumper and above the bumper is a lever (reached from underneath) that feels a lot like the hood latch lever on my Ford pickups. moving the lever toward the passenger side releases the latch(es) at each end of the bumper and it lowers.
I am away from the coach until early January so I can’t confirm that the outboard latch(es) are cable or rod connected.
The inside of the dropped bumper has a diamond plate covering the bumper forming a step feature that I assume I can remove to get some idea/photo about the mechanism once I return to the coach.

I’m still early stages in my conversion, I mostly just wanted into the compartment to clean and check systems hidden up in there!
I’ll worry about changing the mechanism later!
