  • Coolant hoses

Posted by Art on March 27, 2021 at 9:54 am

I’m almost done replacing all the coolant hoses on the series 60 in the coach,I found 1 hose that I missed behind the motor that Is a 4 inch long x 1 1/8 dia silicone hose under floor panel and there is next to it a 10 inch long 1 3/8 dia that I had extra of, Lot’s of hoses. In this process I realized all the piping is solid copper soldered together and painted, pretty impressive. All the old hoses showed signs of wear but not terrible, all blue silicone hoses, I didn’t know they made silicone back in the late 90’s. I used mostly blue silicone but I used black silicone at recovery tank 1/4 inch and 1 3/8 . and also replaced those blue braided hosed to coolant filter , I still need to clean up every thing, And do some zip ties quite A messy job. I’d replaced those three 1/4 hoses off recovery tank a couple of years ago with regular hose,2 years later they are already stiff, silicone will never get hard, pretty cool stuff.

VERY, VERY Nice! Thank you for all the photos.

Any tips you would offer to those contemplating doing the same task?

Art- don’t know if you have seen the 2 hoses forward of drive wheels up high on the ceiling. One of those- and they are about 12 inches long, had rubbed a hole in it and I lost coolant. They connect the chassis heat.

Those hoses look good under front but before I fill I will give them a good hard look Thanks’, Jeff take your time get all the hoses together 1st, and I did change the two coolant thermostats and seals for them with OEM Detroit thermostats, and take lots of pictures, it like a puzzle the way the hoses are routed . Here is a picture of the 2 hoses I missed, In front of motor long one 1 3/8 I had but the short one at bottom 1 1/8 that one I’m waiting for 4 inches long 1 1/8 dia

    Thank YOU, Art!

Ernie / Art – are the two hoses located near the front of the bus inside the spare tire compartment?

Jeff, the ones that I mentioned are directly forward of drive tires. We had a slope to run the back of coach up on. Hard to see way up there.

Art… Could not tell from the photos… Did you replace the very small diameter hoses coming from the cooling reservoir with silicone also? If so, how did you make the fittings?

(Just took these pics of mine)

Yours is newer but mine have three 1/4 ID inch lines coming of tank to engine one goes from tank to top near side tank on the radiator second from tank to thermostat housing the third from tank to top pipe coming from radiator return and I did them in black silicone red inside. Fittings cut old hoses off and slide new ones on and I used 12mm constant tension clamps to hold but drought if they need clamps they have aggressive barbs, my larger line from bottom is a 1 inch ID you look like you have a 1 inch and from your picture another larger line smaller then then the other.
