XL Shocks
Posted by gordon on September 13, 2020 at 4:36 pmGoing to replace all the shocks on my 95 XL Marathon this winter, I have no info on the age of current shocks, they are not leaking but i have just returned from a 10 day trip and noticing a bit of porpoising and front leaning into corners.
Will contact Prevost this week for price etc
As most will know this is a solid front axle coach
Also considering adjustable shocks for front axle and looking for feedback from people who have gone this route and would ask if there is really a noticeable difference between Koni adjustable shocks on the front vs Prevost supplied non adjustable shocks
Thanks
Gordon

Shortly after buying our coach we had Prevost Jacksonville put Koni’s on the front and OEMs on the back. Eliminated much of the porpoising. Happy with them 50,000 miles and almost 6 years later.

6+ yrs ago put red Koni adjustables (2) on the front and it fixed the porpoising, Koni pt# 90-2572SP1
and put 6 yellow Monroe Magnums on the rear, Prevost# 630161, or Monroe# 65407. -
Thanks for the responses, looks as if Koni are the favourite, do you guys leave the shock settings as out of the box on install or alter the factory settings ?
-
I left mine as they came out of the box, as recommended by Koni.
-
I vaguely recall setting them in the “middle” based on recommendation from George Prentice.
-
The new Koni’s no longer are adjustable. If you get an older set middle setting is what most want.

Sorry to rain on your parade, my RF Koni failed (shaft actually snapped in two, never saw a failure like that before) at a fairly young age. Tried to obtain warranty replacement but it was too much hassle.

Fort Worth Prevost ” Yellow Magnum Monroe’s” all the way around after they found an old one leaking.
-
I’ve replaced multiple sets of Prevost shocks over the years and the standard ones Prevost supplies work real well.
-
I’ve said on here years ago when I changed from Monroe OEM to Koni’s I wasn’t good enough to tell the difference.
Back then I changed them at 60 thousand miles on my old bus, didn’t need to.
But if you change a bad shock for a new shock and it’s a Koni it’s gonna feel like a very good upgrade.
The Monroe OEM’s are a good shock. I think Koni’s get alot of praise from guys just going from a worn out shock to a new shock.

All good advise, thank You, I have cross referenced the Prevost shock number which is now 630134 from Prevost for all positions for my 95 to a Gabriel non adjustable shock 85329
I have a lot of Logging Truck operators nearby who are using the Gabriel shocks with good results, price is very competitive as well and available on my doorstep, going to replace all 8 this winter with this model,
As has been said if i have weak / older shocks these will be an improvement.
Thanks Again for the feedback
