  • Can’t find old post ref proper front air bags

Posted by Chuck & Katrina on August 13, 2020 at 2:57 pm

Had Prevost Winter Garden install new front airbags, coach doesn’t want to go above ride height. I remember reading past post about wrong airbags being installed due to improper part numbers but can’t find any of the past post in my searches.
Prevost installed part #630151 for front airbags

Don’t remember Chuck, but this was a post in June.

Hello everyone, I am in the process of purchasing a 1999 H3-45 Featherlite and happen to see the promotion Prevost is having on shocks and air bags. I called Prevost parts number, talked with a gentleman that gave me all the part numbers to order after giving him the vin but after reading thru several of the threads here on air bags I not sure he gave me the right number for the steer & tag position. 630258 is what he gave me, 630259 seems to be what it should be..? Also the front shocks 630134 is what he gave me but it is not listed anywhere I’ve looked. Anyone recently replaced everything that can give me the part number they used that worked as they should would be very helpful.

    Thank you Tom:

Definitely different numbers than what’s on my coach.

    Dorel:

Do you have the part numbers for the steer axle airbags. I also replaced the brake chambers and my part numbers correspond with your numbers.

This is a situation that has been common for a number of years. Way back in the old days when Tom had a Prevost somehow the parts guys were dealing with transposed part numbers and as a result a lot of owners with new air bags could no longer get their front to rise above the road or driving height when they were previously able. That goes back to 2004 when Prevost attempted to minimize the number of air bags needed to maintain coaches.

It was a mess because the following variations in coaches all had different air bags. Forty foot coaches had different ones than 45. Entertainer 45 was different yet. Kneeling coaches had other different air bags as did solid axle versus IFS. And that is just on XL. XLII added to the confusion as steer axle weight ratings increased. As can be imagined every different air bag number was a potential mistake. I am not familiar with the variations on H models.

Another mess was the part numbers called for on EGR turbo system hoses, in which the high and low temp hoses were transposed.

A person could get the Queen Mary to make a 180 degree turn with an oar faster than Prevost would respond and correct errors and when errors were pointed out those who could make changes happen were usually defensive and pissed so we still are feeling the effects of a long term problem.

The only true solution is to get Prevost to make changes as required, but until that happens the alternative is to keep sending parts back until the right ones are made available. I know this is a shitty solution because once the bus is put together and the problem is evident it is not fun to go through the process of swapping parts.

Chuck, that is the correct part number for the front airbags.
