  • Engine fan belt(s)

Posted by Bill on December 9, 2020 at 5:35 pm

The coach uses 3 separate fan belts, AX74, for the fan drive from the engine. Our 8v92 had 3 belts that were bonded as 1 belt. I would prefer that setup. Is such a belt available?

I used some of those on my CC years ago.

I used Dayco belts and I think you put the number of belts in front of the belt number, 2AX74 or in your case 3AX74. They didn’t offer all the belts for the coach like the B series belts for the CC OTR air compressor.

Also the X in the belt number means it’s a toothed belt, not smooth like most belts. Doesn’t matter which you use.

I think I’ve been told the toothed belts run cooler not sure.

I tried the molded belt and experienced more vibration, went back to 3.

Thanks, interesting info. I found an AX74/03 but that was not the right kind of belt and could not find anything googling 3AX74. If anyone is using one on a ’90’s vintage coach could you let me know what you are using and where you found it?

    Thanks

Tom is right, I had the same problem with the one piece belts.

At idle it would cause my fan gear box which also had the dash air compressor mounted to it to bounce back and forth.

Hello, Bill. I have an 8V92 and keep a spare engine belt that I purchased at NAPA. It is a Gates Hi-Power IIPowerBand A92. It is a single triple rib belt. Hope this helps.

I will post a picture for you as soon as I can.

Ron, that what my 8v92 used as well. Not sure it’s still the same specification.
