  • XL vs. XLII vs. H-3

Posted by Tim on April 14, 2015 at 6:39 pm

O.k. I’ve searched the entire “Chassis” forum and did not locate any comparison’s between the XL chassis vs. the H-3 or any articles regarding the differences. Now, I’m not trying to start a “mine is better than yours” discussion. But as a newbie in the research mode, I’m trying to determine the factual difference between these two fine chassis, although I do love that stainless look of the XL/XLII.

I know, because Jon told me, that the XL/XLII chassis is carbon steel with some stainless, and the H-3 is fully stainless steel. Is fully stainless steel better based on the lack of rust vs. the carbon steel? I’m assuming that extends to the entire shell.

I understand the XLII delam issues and some of the differences between the XL vs. XLII. I haven’t seen any delam issues with the H-3, though there has been reported “cracking” in some of the siding.

I know the H-3 is something like 6″ taller. Since I plan to full-time and won’t park it in a garage, I believe the only downside for me would be the extra height would be lower bridges.

So, can some of XL, XLII, and H-3 owners enlighten me, on the structural, mechanical, or electical differences between these three chassis?

Jake, I’m not an engineer or have any worthwhile mechanical abilities. The H3’s have larger bay storage height.

If you are looking at new, the XLIII only comes with two slides max, the H3 offers up to 4 slides which is what we wanted. They have the same motor and trans.

My understanding is that the H3-45’s exterior is made of a fiberglass composite often called Kevlar or a variation of.

The H-3 driver’s area sets a little lower than in the XL. In the XL, the front passenger seat usually will swivel around to join the living room (aka Salon) seating.

    Good luck on your search,

    Mark

    Tim,

Not all H3’s are tall, 13.4 – 13.6, mine is 12’10” to the top of the sat dish. Once you get roof airs, you can plan on the taller height.

Go to: Prevostcar.com there are specs there you can look at on both the H3 and the X3. There is also a sheet for the entertainer XLII.

    Tom,

I see you owned a 2000 XL in the past. Why did you switch to an H-3? Just curious about your rationale. I’m sure you wrote about it somewhere, but I used the search function and couldn’t find it, so if you can direct me to the right link that would also work.
