  hot engine

  I’m trying to cool engine …. 1998 prevost xl11… series 60…entertainer coach… there is a coolant line from the head to the coolant filter… thats it…. no return just to the filter… I think this causes the head to overheat…. If i pull over for a few minutes the temp will lower… where should the return from the coolant filter go????? A mechanic said its not needed… only for show…

  from that mechanic! If it is not looped by-passed the filter you are obstructing designed flow. the cartridge also contains chem when replaced that protect your engine. Fwiw.

  The coolant conditioning filter is not necessary for cooling, but it is the means by which the chemistry in the coolant is maintained because it releases SCAs into the coolant system. It protects your engine and helps prevent cavitation.

  If you engine is overheating have you checked the fan clutch for operation on both speeds, have you checked the engine thermostat and what is the condition of the radiator?

  I agree with Bob. If your mechanic thinks the coolant conditioner is for show get rid of him.
