  • Driving on fully lowered suspension.

Posted by Bill on July 1, 2022 at 8:44 am

Jessica and I bought a place that has a pre-existing steel building. I am not 100% sure if the bus will fit through the door without slight modification.

My question is this. Can the bus be backed straight back into the building on a fully lowered suspension without doing any damage?

    Thanks

    Short answer=Yes.

At our 2nd home, I’ve been backing our bus into its building for 8 yrs with the back suspension about 1/2 way down and the front all the way down because of the satellite dome. I have 1″ to spare. If memory serves me? 12′ door height, 11’11” front of bus height when fully lowered.

Yes. Except for our first 40 foot bus, for which the driveway and its clearances under the door opening, and over the transition point where the transition from the steep driveway to the level garage floor were designed, the two buses after that required exercising the suspension fully extended up, and fully lowered.

It would be great if I did not have to go through the necessary gymnastics with the suspension to get it in and out of the garage, but the increased heights and lengths make if necessary.

Ours is fully lowered to enter shop which has 12′ doors and 12′ trusses. If I want to center sat dish between trusses it can go to ride height or full up, otherwise just leave it lowered. No issues so far since Dec. ’18.

Thanks for the replies! Much appreciated. The seller should have that area of the building cleaned out next week. I will give it a try as soon as he does.
