Ck Shock studs
When doing my recent front air bag /shock project I found one loose. This was a pro maintained coach in it’s previous life. The top stud had been loose in hole and damaged threads on stud. The stud threads are softer than the female threads in the mounting block. A new stud has been installed! I guess the point I’m trying to make is in doubt replace it and torque it down! FWIW for the do it yourselfer or the guy who pays and wants to make sure it has been done rite! Bob

Your tips are always valid and helpful. Keep them coming because a lot of folks, even if they actually do not spin the wrench themselves are very much involved in managing the maintenance and repairs on their coach.
We have quite a few that are very knowledgible about their coach but prefer to rely on others to do the work and tips such as this provide them with information needed to verify work has been done properly.

What I want to know is how did you get the old one out? I tried to change one when I replaced my shocks recently and could not get the old stud out. Used a 1 inch impact and it would not budge. Did not try to heat it.

Mine was oppisite–was loose in block. Threads were flattened on stud. Lots of rust welding going on there! Had to clean threads(inside) to get new stud in..I have found in past when trying to get a rust welded(stuck ) part loose;heat then let cool then try to loosen. This process sometimes bust the bond. Again Previous Owner might have had loose stud and then used JB/Locktight on the old stud instead of replacing it. . The stud cast nut part is tapered to match taper in block(much like wheel nuts) . 3 Total on this coach were replaced. 1998 XLE 450,000miles,only 1 apears to have some type of thead bonding added before–not needed now! Thanks Bob. My coach has 190,000 miles and one of the studs has been replaced in the past. I know because it is the metric nut style that we now can buy and all the rest are inch nuts.
