  • Check Engine Sometimes When Jake Brake Engaged

Posted by Michael on June 26, 2022 at 12:01 am

On our trip up and down the Alcan, we started having a check engine light with the following error on the computer:

    – ENG SID 52 4 Auxiliary Output Dev Driver #4 Low Voltage

It is not consistent as to when it happens (probably happened 6 times and if you have been on the Alcan you know we have use Jake it a lot) and goes off usually after a few minutes when I engage Jake again. I spoke to a tech in Canada and they said they would not worry about it as it has not caused any issues – Jake works fine before, during, and after the check light comes on.

Wondering if anyone has run into this one and has any thoughts? If not, I will wait until we are back on the East Coast and maybe run it by a Service Center or shop for a look to make sure it doesn’t escalate into a bigger issue.

    Thanks!

I have had it happen on our bus maybe 3 times on long steep mountain descents. If I pumped the brakes a few times and took some load off the engine it would go away. My research indicated that it was due to high heat but that was from reading forums rather than a code.
