  • Couple Operations Quetions…

Posted by Ken on December 2, 2012 at 5:09 pm

1st.. On my home trip with my repo special I am now rebuilding, I was playing with the Jake Brake controls and couldn’t seem to see a difference… What are the correct steps to using this? My other MOnaco coach, had a small pedal which essentially controlled and exhause valve I thing… I see there is a Hi and Lo and the switch lights up when I press it. then there is a hi/lo? What is this funtion? DO I need to actually hit the brakes to activate it, because I turned it on then toom my foot off the gas and best I could tell nothing happened.. I tried multiple times and it didn’t make any noises like a jake brake or slow me at all that I could tell….

Next, there is a swtich on the lower right control panel by drivers seat above the heat and ac controls that is labeled MAC pump, I assume this is a Macerator pump as I see it in the bay… what fucntion does this serve? I see the traditional dump controls to dump the tanks at campgrounds and such…. Curious to know what this pump does….

Under the drivers seat is a mess… lots of stuff… but there appears to be a DIpstick tube of some type but no dip stick in it… should there be? is this a prevost item i’m guessing? and what does it monitor? Next in the same compartment is an aux electric air pump. when I turn the swith close to the MAC pump switch mentioned above, it kicks on and runs for a couple seconds them kicks back off… I can bleed off the tank that is next to it a bit then it kicks back on and then off…. THere are also 2 regulators under there… one is clearly labeled for the step, but doesnt appear to do anything (it is mounted ont he top facing down…) the second regulator is ont he back wall that faces the tire well and it shows about 65 lbs, and when I turn it up, it can go as high as about 100…. The air ride seat seemed a little weak so I cranked this up to 95 lbs and the air slide and seat seem better… is this the right control, and am I at any risk running this high of pressure?

I’m learning much, and figuring some out as I go… we are getting there… New Carpet and Tile was installed last week… looking up… On a side note, I really need a company that can make me some simple inexepsive black formica doors… gloss, and in varying sizes… local cabinet makers dont want to deal with it…. anyone know of a company that you can send dimensions to and they can take a slab, and just line all sides and edges with the laminate and send to you? I found one company but they want like 300 bucks a door, for a small 15×18 size.. ouch…. not an option…

    thx

If your Jake is working it should activate as soon as you lift from the accelerator pedal.

Apart from feeling it and hearing the noise, you should see the pyros indicate about 200 to 300 degrees on both left and right with the Jake on the high setting. If it is not functioning in the rear electric box there will be two of the posts for the Jake. They will be listed on the label that identifies each post. If you put 12 volts (I don’t think it should be 24) to each post with the engine idling you are bypassing everything and you should hear the engine lug. If you put 12 volts to both at the same time you can stall the engine. If the engine lugs or stalls you now know the Jake solenoids in the head and all the wiring up to them is OK. Then concentrate on what might be wrong at the pad or connections.

Sounds like someone has gotten creative and may have boogered (a technical term) up the coach on some of what you describe. Maybe a Marathon owner of your vintage will chime in and help with some photos and an answer to your questions.
