Tag bay door won’t open on 98 XLV
I can’t get the tag bay door to open. I think something (like a roll of heavy water hose) is jammed up against the mechanism preventing it from unlatching.
I can pull the lever in the engine bay “OK”, but I don’t feel or hear anything unlatch. I can get a thin screwdriver between the tag bay door and the frame with hopes of triggering something that would unlock the mechanism and let the door come open. But so far NO success.
I’d like so see what the inside mechanism looks like. I’d appreciate it if someone with a late 90’s XLV (45′) coach could take a picture of the mechanism inside the tag bay door and post it so I can see what it looks like. That might help me poke around inside there with a screw driver or heavy wire.

Hi Dick…photos I took of ours. Pretty simple release, might check the release mech in the engine bay to see that the press fit/weld to the shaft thru the bulkhead hasn’t failed. I suppose it could fail on either side though. I’d think it would be pretty hard to jam, but stranger stuff has happened…

Dick I had the same problem with our door. What happened was the bracket at the top that has the nylon strap attached to it, The bracket got bent upwards hitting the body frame. This would not let the latch release. Once I figured out what was going on I bent it down a bit .Works fine now.
