  • lots of buses headed west

Posted by Kevin on October 10, 2013 at 1:46 pm

We’re on our way from Las Vegas to Poughkeepsie, NY and we’ve seen more Prevosts on the road than we can recall ever seeing on a trip. Notably, on Monday
we waived at 10 buses Westbound on I 40 between Gallup and Tucumcari. Yesterday we
saw several, including a 3-bus caravan West on I70 between St Louis and
Indianapolis that we thought might be Branson bound Prevost Community folks.

If you saw a silver-ish XLV with no toad, that was us.

Safe travels all and have a great rally!

    Kevin,

Ya, it’s always neat to see a caravan of busses. Unfortunately, we were the only bus at Branson from the “West.” We took I-70 east to 135 at Salina headed south, and didn’t see one Prevost going to Branson or back

Just as a piece of trivia we spent the night at Camp Prevost in Nashville on the way home and yesterday between Nashville and Knoxville we saw 12 Prevost coaches on I-40. All westbound except one.

3 Motorhomes, 9 entertainer, 4 of which were towing trailers, something not previously legal in TN.

I also saw lots of Prevosts on I-24 and several entertainers with trailers, something you didn’t use to see often.

My office overlooks the Staples Center and Nokia Theater in LA. Most entertainer buses are pulling a trailer these days. The only exception seems to be the really huge productions –e.g. Madonna– which travel with multiple big rigs for equipment so the trailers aren’t needed. Multi-day Madonna concert last year had 12 matching big rigs and 14 buses.

With 9 entertainers on I-40 around Nashville it’s easy to see why they call it music highway!

We’ve been up to Poughkeepsie, NY, down to DC, Durham, NC and the last few days at Stone Mountain in Atlanta, GA and we haven’t seen too many since. I’m headed to Prevost, FL tomorrow, so I’m sure I’ll see a few there.

Speaking of entertainers, I was pulled over by NY state troopers 9 miles in from Pennsylvania. He said I was speeding, which I wasn’t, and then questioned me about who was on board, how many bunk beds I had and if I was sure I wasn’t an entertainer. When he realized we were just a boring couple with two dogs he cut us loose and told me to get my cruise control checked. Maybe I should put a Private Coach sign on the bus.

It’s funny, from buying fiberglass coaches to our bus, every sales person said not to worry about getting the proper license because they never pull over RVs.

Never say never. Besides being a safer driver, I sure am glad I took the time to get mine.

California Shy? Don’t be west coast shy with your Big Rigs. Weather, Scenic Sites, Modern Freeway Systems, great Rv Parking are just the begining. Start in San Diego travel up the coast to Northern CA , Continue up to Oregon and Washington. Stopping in each region, park the rig. and visit the areas around you.

Don’t let your tires rot in some some stationary RV Lot, get your moneys worth, go wear them out. Were Prevost People.not Park Model Owners. These Prevosts were not built to be Status Monuments, they need to be used for travel. The western United states is loaded with places to visit, relax, click cameras, hike, ski, off road, fish, eat local.food, Don’t on your assets, move, enjoy, breath. This merrygoround only goes around once make the best of it. Deserts and mountains are in great abundance out here also. ” Hit the road Jack. “

Plan your next Rally Out West, We’ll Join You.

We’ll be at the Nellis AFB campground next week (11/11-11/15) if anyone is in the area. It’s on the northeast rim of Las Vegas.

    Jon,

I have been pulling a trailer with an Entertainer Coach all over the U.S. since the mid 90’s,Most smaller acts pull a trailer with equipment in it or I have pulled them before full of T-Shirts.Even some large tours with semi trucks for the equipment will still pull a trailer behind the coach with a vehicle in it or a motorcycle or I once pulled one with workout equipment in it that they would set up in the parking lot everyday to work out and lets not forget everybodys golf clubs!!! I believe trailers are here to stay in the entertainer coach business,I have even pulled trailers with Eagles with no problems even pulled a u-haul once LOL!!! I personally dont even notice it back there as now they are using heavier built trailers made to take the abuse with heavy-duty tires. In the early days of pulling trailers they were light weight trailers made to be pulled with a pick-up and the coach was beating them to death and they had 15″ car tires on them and I would have a flat every night it seemed. You have to watch how they load them as they usually dont pay any attention to the weight of things more to the fact that they have this big box they can fill front to back, left to right, top to bottom and they will try and stuff it.I always weighed my trailer after it was loaded and if the tongue was to heavy they had to repack and if the axles were to heavy they had to reduce weight by getting rid of something or putting it on another vehicle. I went to San Fransisco to pick up a band from London England once and when I pulled up to the hotel lined up on the side walk was what looked like a semi trailer load of gear,I told the person in charge that I only had 2 empty bays on the 40’er I had and it all was not going to fit!!! We started loading gear and after filling up the bays,we put some stuff inside the coach(which I didnt care for) and we still had a truck load and a half left,So I suggested a trailer and they agreed to the additional cost,So I went to U-Haul and got the biggest trailer they had and went back,We loaded it and still had gear left,So I suggested a U-Haul truck and they talked it over and agreed and we went and got one and filled it up and still had the t-shirts left,So I suggested shipping them ahead using UPS to different venues and clubs,So it was agreed and we worked that out and finally got out of there a day behind.Thats the way begining bands are,No money,So they try to make the coach do everything and it just want work. I refuse to let them bring road cases inside the coach, loose guitars and other instruments are ok,But no cases as they are handled rough and have rough edges and tear up upholstery and floors.

Sorry for the long post,I just got started!!

    Robert
